Harness
Harness Leather
The first leather that my father and I developed 30 years ago was a harness leather. I consider it to be one of the
most important leathers we use and sell. It needs to be stuffed with the right combination of tallows, waxes and
oils to be weather resistant. It needs to have full strength and it needs to feel good to the consumer. We look for
harness leather with a bright, consistent finish and good yields. This is no small feat and you can trust that the
following leathers are superb in all these areas. TR selection is priced per side or per back.
Hermann Oak ® Harness Leather
Hermann Oak ® is the oldest and most trusted name in harness leather. Over 70 years ago my father, Harry Weaver,
worked unloading rail cars of black Hermann Oak ® harness leather for making harnesses since horses were still a
major mode of transportation at the time. This harness leather is drum dyed and stuffed for maximum strength and
longevity. After all these years, it is still the choice of some of the finest harnessmakers I know.
The russet harness leather from Hermann Oak ® also has legendary status. In terms of thickness, weight and feel,
it is the #1 harness leather used to make extra heavy harness leather riding reins and coordinating tack. The unique
formula used actually plumps the leather to give it incredible thickness and a hefty feel. All I can say is that this leather
is timeless and often copied but never duplicated. Large quantities are in-stock in a variety of weights ready for
same day shipment.
