17. End-of-Life (EOL): A product is End-of-Life’d when Engineering support ends for all members within<br />

a release family. This me<strong>an</strong>s bug fixes are no longer provided or backported to <strong>an</strong>y member of the<br />

EOL’d release family. Instead, bug fixes are provided for the latest supported releases. For example,<br />

when ASE 12.5 was EOL’d, all new bug fixes were delivered to the most recent version of 15. Please<br />

note the following about End-of-Life products:<br />

Before a product is EOL’d, <strong>Sybase</strong> issues <strong>an</strong> End-of-Life (EOL) notice well in adv<strong>an</strong>ce of the<br />

EOL date, usually a year or more.<br />

A product is not EOL’d until after the introduction of a new release family.<br />

Technical Support is still provided to all EOL’d products. However, since new bug fixes c<strong>an</strong>not<br />

be provided, the resolution of <strong>an</strong>y bug related issue requires <strong>an</strong> upgrade to a more recent<br />

version of ASE (depending on where the issue is fixed).<br />

18. CR: This is <strong>an</strong> acronym for “Ch<strong>an</strong>ge Request”. It is often referred to as a “bug” fix, although it may<br />

also refer to a feature request. CR’s are identified by a unique number <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> are used to identify the<br />

discovery <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> resolution of a software issue or request.<br />

19. <strong>Sybase</strong> Product Download Center (SPDC): This is <strong>Sybase</strong>’s online portal for obtaining official “GA”<br />

releases of licensed <strong>Sybase</strong> software. All full official releases of <strong>Sybase</strong> software c<strong>an</strong> be obtained<br />

<strong>from</strong> this site. This site c<strong>an</strong> be found at: https://sybase.subscribenet.com.<br />

20. <strong>Sybase</strong> Support Download Portal: NOTE: What is not available on the SPDC site is software<br />

patches (EBF’s). These are available <strong>from</strong> our <strong>Sybase</strong>.com “Support>Download” menu at:<br />

http://downloads.sybase.com/swd/base.do?client=support .<br />

21. Controlled Releases, Instrumented Releases <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> One-Off’s: These are limited availability<br />

releases designed to address specific Customer or Engineering needs. They must be obtained<br />

through <strong>Sybase</strong> Technical Support <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> c<strong>an</strong>not be found on either the SPDC or EBF download portals.<br />
