12 February 18 and 19, 2011 Annual Vernon Ski Seminar DE9139 Friday, February 18 Making Fun of Oral Surgery Dr. Ian Matthew Oral surgery can be a practice builder. It can also be a satisfying component to the varied skill set of general dental practice. The aim of this presentation is to provide an update on various aspects of oral surgery with the objective of making the surgery safer, less stressful and more enjoyable for clinician and patient alike. Topics to be addressed in this three-hour presentation include: • Instrumentation • Application Of Radiography For Safer Surgical Procedures • Local Anaesthesia – Technique And Pharmacology • Newer Concepts Of Surgical Exodontia • Third Molar Surgery Hints And Tips • Common oral lesions and their management Ian Matthew, PhD, MDent, Sc, BDS, FDSRCS(Eng), FDSRCS(Ed) is a full-time member of the faculty of UBC’s Faculty of Dentistry. He was trained as an oral surgeon in the United Kingdom, and is licensed as a specialist in oral surgery within the European Union. He has over 25 years of experience in teaching oral surgery at the undergraduate and graduate level. He has been the recipient of several teaching awards during his time at UBC. Dr. Matthew also maintains a part-time clinical practice in Burnaby. 3 hours of instruction Saturday, February 19 Aesthetics & Function of Ceramic Restorations Dr. Chris Wyatt Aesthetics & Function are interrelated in the delivery of successful veneers, crowns, and bridges. This one-day course will cover aesthetics concepts, dental materials, occlusion, and longevity of ceramic restorations. An emphasis will be placed upon the clinical use of the new aesthetic restorative materials including zirconium dioxide and lithium disilicate glass ceramics. Schedule: 9:00 - 10:30 Aesthetic Concepts 10:30 - 10:45 Coffee Break 10:45 - 12:00 Aesthetic Concepts (cont.) 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch 1:00 - 2:30 Porcelain Veneers 2:30 - 2:45 Coffee Break 2:45 - 4:00 Ceramic Crowns Chris Wyatt, BSc, DMD, MSc, FRCD(C), Dip Pros is a Certified Specialist in Prosthodontics and an Associate Professor and Head of the Division of Prosthodontics and Dental Geriatrics at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Dentistry. He is the 2009 recipient of the W.W. Wood Award for “Excellence in Dental Education.” In 1998 Dr.Wyatt was the recipient of the Killam Teaching Award. In addition to lecturing and providing continuing education courses on Prosthodontics within and outside of Canada, he enjoys treating patients with prosthodontic concerns in his private practice. Society of Prosthodontists, and an associate member of the Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics.
