Advanced Hard and S<strong>of</strong>t Tissue Grafting<br />

– A Three Day Cadaver Course<br />

OVERVIEW: Initially implant function was a measure <strong>of</strong> success; today, however,<br />

implant esthetics is what drives patients to seek treatment. This has raised the<br />

demands on the implant surgeons who now have to master both hard and s<strong>of</strong>t<br />

tissue management around dental implants.<br />

This hands on cadaver course is designed to treat the most challenging<br />

aspects <strong>of</strong> tissue deficiency. Both horizontal and vertical hard and s<strong>of</strong>t tissue<br />

augmentation techniques will be demonstrated.<br />

Novel s<strong>of</strong>t tissue augmentation such as the Vascularized Interpositional<br />

Periosteal Connective Tissue graft (VIP-CT) will be used to correct both<br />

horizontal and vertical s<strong>of</strong>t tissue deficiencies with one procedure. Vertical bone<br />

grafting techniques using GBR and autogenous blocks will be demonstrated as<br />

well as combination hard and s<strong>of</strong>t tissue procedures.<br />

Hard and s<strong>of</strong>t tissue grafting techniques will be demonstrated and each<br />

participant will perform the procedure on a cadaver head.<br />

This course will provide both the biologic rational and clinical techniques for<br />

grafting. Finally complications <strong>of</strong> each procedure will be discussed.<br />

COURSE CONTENT:<br />

• Biology <strong>of</strong> hard and s<strong>of</strong>t tissue grafting<br />

• Esthetic principles in implant placement<br />

• Immediate implant placement and temporization<br />

• Socket preservation and temporization<br />

• Up to date clinical and scientific review <strong>of</strong> bone substitutes<br />

• Small and large volume s<strong>of</strong>t tissue augmentation<br />

• Small and large volume bone augmentation<br />

• Bone harvesting technique (ramus, zygoma, tuberosity, and chin)<br />

• Combination <strong>of</strong> hard and s<strong>of</strong>t tissue augmentation<br />

• Autogenous block grafting - Vertical bone augmentation<br />

• Autogenous J-graft - Guided tissue regeneration using membranes<br />

• Sinus augmentation<br />

• Nerve lateralization<br />

• Alveolar distraction<br />

• Complications and how to deal with them<br />

PLEASE NOTE: If you wear magnification loupes while practicing, we<br />

recommend you bring them to this hands-on course.<br />

Hassan Moghadam, DDS, MSc, FRCD(C) completed his dental training at<br />

McGill <strong>University</strong> followed by a multidisciplinary residency at the Royal Victoria<br />

Hospital. He then established a private practice in Vancouver BC, limiting<br />

his practice to periodontal surgery and implants. He completed his Oral<br />

and Maxill<strong>of</strong>acial Surgery training at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Toronto and perused<br />

a Masters in science in the field <strong>of</strong> bone regeneration. He has lectured and<br />

published both nationally and internationally in the field <strong>of</strong> bone grafting and<br />

s<strong>of</strong>t tissue surgery. His lecture series are dedicated to the regeneration <strong>of</strong><br />

perimplant tissues. His current research interests include stem cell based bone<br />

regeneration and he is working closely with the Halifax Bone Bank in developing<br />

a bone substitute. He is on the Health Canada National surveillance committee<br />

which is involved in regulating cells, tissues and organ transplants in Canada.<br />

Tuition: Dentists: $4000.00<br />

Full 3 day program • Human cadaver heads maxilla and mandible provided.<br />

Instrumentation: Participants are required to bring surgical instruments with<br />

him/her for the cadaver dissection and bone graft harvesting. A list will be<br />

provided upon receipt <strong>of</strong> completed application.<br />

Times: Friday May 13 8:30 – 4:30 all day lecture<br />

Saturday May 14 & 15 Hands on and Didactic<br />
