NORTH-SOUTH CENTRE - ETH - North-South Centre North-South ...

In the area of Networking and communication, the strategy
specifically highlights the importance of strengthening
the networks with our partner institutions in developing
countries. Within Switzerland, our priority lies on the
collaboration with the National Centre of Competence in
Research North-South (NCCR North-South) already focusing
on the post-NCCR era when the institutional landscape
will be changing within Switzerland. As a first step,
joint North-South Fora with the NCCR North-South have
been agreed to, starting in spring 2010. Communication
will remain an important activity of the North-South
Centre, which (as a competence centre) is sustained by
its network capital. Therefore, its members need
constant incentives and motivation to remain committed
– for example, new platforms for the communication
of their activities.
We are now in the initial phase of implementing the new
strategy. While the two topics Food security and Natural resource
management build on our past programmes and
achievements, we are gradually developing new activities
on Urban and rural transformation and on Technology and
infrastructure. Institutionally, we have established new
Technical Committees for each of the four research topics.
