Preface
It is difficult to imagine a world without steel.
Steel is a fundamental building
block of modern society, a key
material in the infrastructure we
depend on in our daily lives. The
versatility of steel as a material
delivers an ability for steel products
to be transformed repeatedly after
use in a variety of applications.
As a company OneSteel is involved
in all stages of the steel life cycle.
It mines raw materials such as
iron ore, produces iron and steel,
manufactures and distributes steel
finished products and collects
scrap steel for recycling in the steel
manufacturing process.
This involvement in the production
and re-use of steel ensures that
OneSteel is committed to building
a sustainable future for all of
its stakeholders.
OneSteel first produced a
Sustainability Report as part of its
Annual Report in 2007. This year
OneSteel has chosen to produce a
full separate online sustainability
report that incorporates the
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
framework and principles.
The 2010 Sustainability Report was
prepared following research and
consultation with a wide variety of
stakeholders. The report focuses on
the key areas of Safety & People,
Customer & Market, Environment,
Community and Economics.
