“THE CLEVELAND HIKE”
THE OLDEST AND BEST OF BOYS’ BRIGADE HIKES.
26 – 27 JUNE 2010
The Cleveland Hike is the largest hike of its type and takes
place the last full weekend in June.
TYPES OF TEAMS
All teams must be three persons, the only exception being the Expedition
Team – (which is split into teams of three but you can all walk together;
this is for safety precautions and to comply with the CSR).
Normal Teams 12 – 19 years of age.
Expedition Teams 12 or younger with an experienced adult.
The Leader of the Expedition teams must be capable of reading a 6 figure
map reference and all members of the team must be fit enough to walk 25
miles plus over the weekend.
Veteran Teams 19 – any age.
Adult groups of more than three are welcome, but they will be divided into
teams of three. This is for safety reasons and does not mean that groups
cannot walk the route together.
Checkpoints are set along the route with incidents for teams to try.
Walking in teams of three enables us to monitor and ensure safety of teams’
progress on the North York Moors. We have a large number of bodies on the
Moors over the weekend, which include Cleveland Search and Rescue who
have specified certain Safety Rules and Regulations regarding the numbers
in each team and have asked us to ensure all teams are restricted to a
maximum of three in older age groups.
The BB Cleveland Hike nearly always finishes at Danby on the North York
Moors. When the last team completes the Hike the presentation takes
place, which includes The Boys’ Brigade Cleveland Hike Trophy. There are
certificates for all who complete the Hike including re-starters.
The Boys’ Brigade Cleveland Hike Committee hopes that the above
mentioned information has encouraged members to join us on the weekend.
