Connections for test<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>sulation resistance of a motor, start<strong>in</strong>g<br />

equipment and connect<strong>in</strong>g l<strong>in</strong>es, <strong>in</strong> parallel. Note that the starter switch is<br />

<strong>in</strong> the “on<strong>”</strong> position for the test. It is always preferable to disconnect the<br />

component parts and test them separately <strong>in</strong> order to determ<strong>in</strong>e where<br />

weaknesses exist.<br />

With the brushes raised as <strong>in</strong>dicated, the brush rigg<strong>in</strong>g and field coils can be<br />

tested separately from the armature. Likewise the armature can be tested by<br />

itself. With the brushes lowered, the test will be that of brush rigg<strong>in</strong>g, field<br />

coils and armature comb<strong>in</strong>ed.<br />
