Research and Scholarship
College faculty, students and research staff maintained
an extensive research program in the four disciplinary
areas of the pharmaceutical sciences; medicinal chemistry
and pharmacognosy, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, and
pharmaceutical administration. Research efforts reflected
all aspects of the discovery, development and use of
medicines. Research in the college underpins the
education of approximately 100 graduate students and is
the foundation of the college’s scholarly productivity.
The scholarship of the faculty included 230 peerreviewed
journal articles and book chapters, an
extraordinary increase of 40% over 2005-2006. In 2006-
2007 sponsored research funds awarded to College
faculty totaled $7.67M, an increase of 22% over the
previous year. Research sponsorship was primarily from
the National Institutes of Health and also included
awards from the Department of Defense, the National Science
Foundation, and private foundations and companies.
