History display launch<br />
Civic Centre | 14 August 2006<br />
Overview:<br />
A key part <strong>of</strong> the 150 year celebrations was the<br />
research and construction <strong>of</strong> a historical display in<br />
the Civic Centre Atrium. The display was <strong>of</strong>fi cially<br />
opened after the <strong>Special</strong> meeting <strong>of</strong> <strong>Council</strong> on<br />
14 August.<br />
The event featured a number <strong>of</strong> information panels<br />
and displays about historic sites or businesses in<br />
<strong>Burnside</strong>. It also included an AV display featuring<br />
old footage <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burnside</strong>, a large number <strong>of</strong> old<br />
photos, display cabinets featuring historical items<br />
from the Glenside Hospital and <strong>Burnside</strong> <strong>Council</strong>,<br />
the taking <strong>of</strong> a new diorama <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>, mannequins<br />
displaying old <strong>Council</strong>lor and Mayoral robes, plus<br />
colourful ro<strong>of</strong> mounted fl ags and 150 year banners.<br />
The Display was extremely popular and attracted a<br />
number <strong>of</strong> positive comments from residents visiting<br />
the Civic Centre. It also attracted a number <strong>of</strong> visits<br />
from schools, helping raise student awareness<br />
about the history <strong>of</strong> the area.<br />
