Programmes with UNESCO<br />
COMSATS’ proposed project titled: ‘COMSATS-UNESCO South-South Regional<br />
(Asia-Pacific) Technical Cooperation Programme (<strong>2010</strong>-11)’, which was submitted<br />
through the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU) on January 29,<br />
2009, was approved by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural<br />
Organization (UNESCO) on October 25, <strong>2010</strong>.<br />
The programme is focused at building scientific and technical capacity of the common<br />
Member States of COMSATS and UNESCO in the Asia-Pacific region, using the<br />
expertise and skills available within COMSATS’ Network of International S&T Centres<br />
of Excellence, as well as other collaborating institutions, and providing an opportunity<br />
to the scientists/engineers/researchers in the region to interact with their peers for<br />
sharing knowledge and expertise.<br />
<strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong><br />
<strong>2010</strong><br />
Under the programme, COMSATS and UNESCO will jointly hold 5 training<br />
workshops/seminars/conferences in 4 common member countries, China, Pakistan,<br />
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, in 2011. Three of the COMSATS’ Centres of Excellence,<br />
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), International Centre for Climate<br />
and Environment Sciences (ICCES), and International Center for Chemical and<br />
Biological Sciences (ICCBS) will host the events in Islamabad-Pakistan, Beijing-<br />
China and Karachi-Pakistan, respectively.<br />
