CIF celebrated its 25 foundation anniversary on December 4, <strong>2010</strong>.<br />
The Director CIF, Dr. Eduardo Posada Flórez, and researchers and<br />
scientists of CIF expressed pleasure in 25 years full of experiences<br />
and achievements, contributing to advancement of science in<br />
Colombia. The Department-wise activities of CIF for the <strong>2010</strong> are<br />
reported as follows:<br />

During <strong>2010</strong>, the Biophysics and Biology of Membranes Research Group<br />
published two research articles in the Journals ‘Acta Biológica Colombiana’<br />
and ‘Experimental Parasitology’. The articles were about interactions of<br />
intracellular parasites (Leishmania-macrophage) with their host cells and the<br />
changes in the cells’ membrane-properties.<br />

The Group participated in the ASCB 50 <strong>Annual</strong> Meeting poster notification -<br />
Control ID: 935102, XXIX Chemical Latin-American Congress; XVI<br />
Colombian Chemical Congress; and VI Colombian Chromatography<br />
Congress.<br />
The group produced one Ph.D. and supervised two Magister theses<br />
supporting the Chemical Department Programmes of the National University<br />
of Colombia.<br />
The Group also supervised five Bachelor theses in Biology of the National<br />
University of Colombia and the Quindío University.<br />
Colciencias (Colombian Administrative Department of Science, Technology<br />
and Innovation) granted funding for two new projects submitted by the Group,<br />
while the National University of Colombia funded another project of the Group.<br />
In collaboration with the Colombian Microscopy Association (ASCM) and the<br />
Microscopy Unit of the University of Cauca, Colombia, the Group organized a<br />
Workshop on Microscopy Fundamentals and Applications, in Bogotá<br />
(Colombia), from August 11 to 14, <strong>2010</strong>. The focus of the workshop was at the<br />
versatility of microscopy as a tool for basic research and having applications in<br />
a number of industries.<br />
Biophysics and Cellular Physiology Group<br />
The Biophysics and Cellular Physiology Group supervised three Biology theses and a<br />
Physiology Magister thesis related to melanopsin mediated photoreception and<br />
signal mechanisms, studied in chicken (Gallus gallus) embryo retina.<br />
