Polycom VSX7000 equipment. At present, video-conferencing<br />
service is available in Islamabad only, while efforts are underway to<br />
replicate the same in other cities of Pakistan.<br />

Comtrain (Training Centre for IT Professionals): CIS<br />
has trained more than 2,000 networking<br />
professionals since its inception in 1996. CIS was a<br />
training partner of CISCO in late 90s wherein it<br />
conducted many training courses for students and<br />
professionals at its Headquarters in Islamabad.<br />
These courses included CCNA, CCNP, Linux, Java,<br />
and MCSE. Keeping in view the need and demand of<br />
students and professionals, CIS will be re-launching these training<br />
courses in 2011, to be delivered at its Headquarters in Islamabad.<br />
These training courses will be of short term (weekly or bi-weekly), with<br />
flexible timings, and will be provided by competent professionals<br />
having adequate hands-on experience.<br />
Government of Pakistan’s Assistance to CIS<br />
<strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2010</strong><br />

First Meeting of the Inter-ministerial Committee on CIS: On 15 February <strong>2010</strong>,<br />
the then Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan, Mr.<br />
M. Azam Khan Swati, chaired the meeting of the Inter-ministerial Committee on<br />
COMSATS Internet Services (CIS) at<br />
COMSATS Secretariat. The Committee met<br />
for the first time to review the services and<br />
performance of CIS; deliberate on its future<br />
plans and activities; as well as to discuss the<br />
ways and means to overcome the strategic<br />
and operational difficulties faced by it.<br />
Besides some senior government officials<br />
from the Ministries of Science & Technology<br />
and Information Technology & Telecom, the<br />
meeting was attended by the Advisor to the<br />
Prime Minister on Information Technology;<br />
Federal Secretary, MoST; Federal<br />
Secretary, MoIT&T; Executive Director<br />
COMSATS; and Director General CIS.<br />
Funding for CIS’ Wi-fi based Broadband Services: CIS received partial funding<br />
from the Government of Pakistan for expansion of its Wi-fi based broadband<br />
services. CIS has now established about fifty wireless links, while more are being<br />
provided every month.<br />
Funding for COMSATS’ Tele-health Project: CIS had submitted a proposal to the<br />
Government of Pakistan for funding of its project of establishing tele-health clinics in<br />
the remote areas of the country. The project has been approved by the Government of<br />
Pakistan but the release of funds is still awaited.<br />
