DAY CAMP Globetrotters NEW Grades 6-10; DCA/CITs: Grades 10-12 Experience the richness of other cultures and learn tricks for savvy traveling. Work toward the New Cuisine or Traveler badges as you prepare a tasty meal from a country you choose and investigate with your fellow wanderers. Hop on unusual vehicles as you earn the Alternate Transportation patch. Make your way to the airport for a behind-the-scenes tour. Gather tips and insight from seasoned participants in destinations (Girl Scouts’ travel program) and study-abroad programs, then plan your own fantastic journey! Activities include cooking, crafts, games, a critter encounter and team-building at the Adventure Zone. You’ll fill the rest of your day with crafts, snacks and activities related to the week’s theme. Plus, you’ll make new friends in small group classes, working toward journeys and badges as you go. Search for gold you can weigh and trade for dry goods and vittles (trinkets and treats). Bring a bandit to justice in a camp-wide mystery and drama game. July 8-12 Dreamcatchers Imagine a simple, horse-based life as you build and decorate a teepee with your clan, try authentic Native American foods and create beautiful craft projects, immersing yourself in varied and ancient cultures. Learn how stories and legends last through many generations, then tell your own story about the visions you’ve captured in your dreamcatcher. July 22-26 Painted Ponies Love art and horses? Learn how to express your passion for horses with pencil, paint and other media during special classes with visiting artists. (We explore new techniques each year.) Your artwork will be a special memento of your time on the ranch with the ponies. At the end of the week, your group paints a real horse with animal-safe paints. July 29-Aug. 2 Musicpalooza Grades K-6; DCA/CITs: Grades 8-12 Find your rhythm by experimenting with cool sound machines and a huge array of musical instruments. Make your very own instrument and learn how to tell your story during a collaborative songwriting workshop. Visiting artists perform at interactive classes that are new every year. This camp is custom-designed just for Girl Scouts! No musical experience or ability required. Create your own character and make dress-up accessories to fit the part. Cast off on a hunt for buried treasure and take part in a tasty tea party. Dream up skits, act them out with your new friends and collaborate on an illustrated storybook. Swim, play, make crafts and work toward badges. Plus, visit Pirate Shores and Castle Hill during a fun day at LEGOLAND. Rainbow’s End Plays Again! Grades 6-12 Come dabble in drama, then head to the Magic Kingdom to celebrate! Experience theater as you see a professional production and put on one of your own. Develop skills and talents by working together when acting, choosing costumes and makeup and designing sets and props. Strengthen your leadership capabilities as you interact with younger girls from the Pirates and Princesses camp. End the week with a blast at Disney California Adventures. You’ll have plenty of time to perfect your shooting technique and gain advanced skills. Design archery games to share with others and discover the Balboa Park Field Archery Range, walking from target to target in a wooded canyon. Take home super projects, like an arrow and quiver you’ll make yourself. Cool off in the pool and bond with new friends through camp songs and games. Work toward the Archery badge for your age level. All sessions are taught in small groups, perfect for making new friends. Traipse through the San Diego Zoo on a special rainforest scavenger hunt. Uncover the mysteries of animal adaptation during private, age-level lab sessions at the Birch Aquarium. Snack on your own edible science experiments… and experience all the songs and silly safari games that make camp an adventure!
