new treasures. Turn a pair of canvas shoes into wearable<br />

art <strong>and</strong> make your own sketchbook for recording<br />

your creations. Then strut down the runway in your new<br />

duds during the end-of-the-week fashion show.<br />

Fantastical Fun<br />

Grades K-3; DCA/CITs: Grades 7-12<br />

Build fairy huts or enchanted castles <strong>and</strong> dance with<br />

dragons or unicorns at a magical <strong>camp</strong> for imaginative<br />

<strong>camp</strong>ers. Create whimsical costumes to wear while you<br />

learn basic ballet moves <strong>and</strong> work on the Art of Ballet<br />

patch. Dream up your own fairy tale with your new <strong>camp</strong><br />

friends <strong>and</strong> bring it to life with dramatic play, interpretive<br />

dance or bookmaking. Games, crafts <strong>and</strong> songs are part<br />

of each charmed <strong>day</strong>.<br />

For the Love of Animals<br />

K-5; DCA/CITs: Grades 7-12<br />

Calling all critter-crazy <strong>camp</strong>ers: Spend two hours at<br />

the Escondido Humane Society each <strong>day</strong>, where you’ll<br />

get to know different kinds of pets <strong>and</strong> how to care for<br />

them. Plus, learn about careers in animal care <strong>and</strong><br />

education from professionals in those fields. Enjoy<br />

traditional <strong>camp</strong> activities with a zoological twist <strong>and</strong><br />

work toward the Animals badge for your age level.<br />

New this year: Drop off <strong>and</strong> pick up your <strong>camp</strong>er at <strong>Girl</strong><br />

<strong>Scouts</strong>’ Escondido Program Center (EPC) or Balboa<br />

Campus. Campers will ride a bus to the Escondido<br />

Humane Society for the two-hour program, then return<br />

to EPC for more animal-themed fun!<br />

(G.E.M.M.)<br />

Grades 7-12<br />

Through the power of film, express yourself <strong>and</strong> explore<br />

issues that concern you. Learn how to use state-of-theart<br />

equipment <strong>and</strong> software. Gain h<strong>and</strong>s-on experience<br />

in every aspect of filmmaking, including directing,<br />

cinematography, writing, editing, sound mixing, lighting<br />

<strong>and</strong> acting. Work in small groups to write a script, cast<br />

roles <strong>and</strong> plan props <strong>and</strong> locations. Present your<br />

masterpiece at a screening on Fri<strong>day</strong>.<br />

Grades 1-7; DCA/CITs: Grades 8-12<br />

Learn to be a money whiz with the “<strong>Girl</strong>s of Greatness!”<br />

Compare needs <strong>and</strong> wants, learn how to budget, make<br />

sound purchasing decisions, consider investing <strong>and</strong><br />

practice philanthropy. Swim, visit the animal shelter,<br />

make piggy banks <strong>and</strong> wallets <strong>and</strong> play store. Go on a<br />

price tag scavenger hunt <strong>and</strong> shop with your own “<strong>day</strong><br />

<strong>camp</strong> bucks.” Work toward the Financial Literacy badge<br />

for your age level.<br />
