Rickey Rooney, star of "Three Goats and
a Blanket." recently playing at the
Windmill Dinner Theatre, has been frequenting
the Cine Capri Theatre of late.
Apparently Rooney has been in the audience
several times to view the Paramount release
"The Day of the Locust."
The Harkins circuit will
be adding another
screen. Construction is under way for
twinning at the Tower Plaza Theatre.
Larrj' Weatherman, manager of the UA
Christown 6. has announced a record-breaking
showing of "Jaws" at the si.xplex here.
The new mark was set on a Saturday and
just slightly overshadowed weekday grosses,
which still are remarkably high . . . "Rollerball"
began an exclusive engagement July
.^0 at Mann's Christown Theatre.
A going-away dinner was held Tuesday.
July 29, at Smugglers' Inn for Paul Martin,
departing manager of the Cine Capri Theatre.
Martin is heading north to the Sacramento
area, where he takes over duties at
a new Plitt Theatres twin.
Trial in Obscenity Case
Continued Until Sept. 4
SALT LAKE CITY—Trial for a theatre
owner charged with "exhibiting an obscene
motion picture" ("Deep Throat") was continued
July 31 in Salt Lake City Court until
September 4. Lee Harper, iproprietor of the
Palace Theatre, 65 East Broadway, previously
had pleaded innocent to the charges
and his attorneys requested a jury trial.
Harper was served with a summons June
12 which said that the film "Deep Throat"
was "obscene and co.nitrary to the laws of
Reports that the Westdale theatres, recently
acquired by the Century Cinema Circuit,
are in financial trouble can be dispyelled.

The Cricket Theatre will have a new
name from this point on.. Recently purchased
by Nevada interests, the theatre under
the managership of Wayne Pertle now
will be known as the Crest Twin. Retiring
Bob Stevens soon will announce his plans
for the future.

HOLLYWOOD — Roberta Getzler has
been named executive story editor of Hanna-Barbera
Productions and will option
properties that can be the basis of theatrical
movies and TV specials and series.
Hanna-Barbera also has named Daniel
B. Rosenthal director of business affairs.

NY Variety Club Completes
'Weigh-Out' Campaign
NEW YORK—The Variety Club of New
York has completed its first annual "Weigh-
Out" campaign with the final weigh-in taking
place in the Regency Foyer of the Hotel
.'\mericana preceding a special Tent 35
luncheon in honor of Morton Sunshine.
Twenty-five participants pledged their efforts
to lose excess weight over a seven-week
period with pledges on the total poundage
lost going to the various heart projects of
the Variety Club Foundation.

Theatres, Inc.. and his wife Kathy are the

F^ive motion picture representatives met
with Fay Hamblin, local film promoter, to
make preparations for an upcoming twoand-one-half-hour
TV special titled "How
the 'West Was Won." Bill Owens, production
manager, said shooting will begin immediately
and continue for two weeks in the
Kanab area. The special, a pilot for a new
TV .series, will star James Arness and Eva
Marie Saint and will be made by MGM for
ABC. Producer is John Mantley and the
director is Bernie McEveety. Both have
worked on many pictures in the Kanab
area. During the two-week shooting schedule,
the company will use the old fort six
miles west of the town, the Johnson Canyon
movie street, Tom's Canyon northeast of
Kanab and parts of the .Arizona Strip. A
crew of 60 and cast of ten will fly to Kanab
for the production, according to Owens.
Hamblin has been working for some time
on the sets and arranging local housing.
Several weeks ago progress was reported
regarding the renovation of the Rialto Theatre
and the fact that the house will have a
motif similar to Trolley theatres. The name,
however, was omitted inadvertently. The
theatre will be named Midtown Trolley
Theatre and it will be owned by Trolley
Theatres, Inc., headed by Mike Place.
