LETTERS
lo HOXOLFICE:
li .lint easy" after all these 16'/2 years,
htii I have finally made an irrevocable deci-
^l,l^ to leave this business called "show
I've enclosed a tear sheet from a Columbia.
Mo., paper (Missourian) giving a few
of the details, but the real purpose of my
letter lo you is to tell you Boxofficf. has
meant so very much to me for so very
many years.
Six of my proudest pos, sessions are my
six Showmandiser Citations from Boxofficf.
My best memories are the literally
dozens of young men I have had the privilege
of training in this great business. I take
with me a lifetime of experiences I wouldn't
trade for anything.
Nevertheless, personal considerations
dictate decisions and this is no exception.
I do look forward to a new challenge and
I do plan to keep in touch.
Many thanks for past favors and weekly
director of the Commonwealth Columbia
a t r e s, has been
med transportation
superintendent for Columbia
effective Monday
Walter, 54, has been
with Commonwealth
Theatres since 1939
and has managed the
Columbia theatres
since 1966. The opportunity
for "a new
challenge" and a desire
to "serve the community" influenced
Walter's decision to go to work for the city
in the $13,572-per-year post. He has had no
experience in the managememt of transit
systems.
Bob Walter
Public Works Director Ray Beck said
Walter was the unanimous choice for the
position even though he has no experience
with bus operations.
"Frankly, there was some emphasis on a
person who had management and promotion
experience," Beck said. "We also wanted a
community-oriented person who could work
wiDh people .
Walter fits that description."
