"Saturday Night Fever" returned to the
area August 23 at the Lewis & Clark 2.
Admiral Twin. ScaTac 6 Cinema, Lynn
Four, Neptune, Laicewood in Tacoma and
at the Sunset and Thunderbird drive-ins.
Only the Lakewood had it in Dolby stereo.
"High-Ballin' " from American International
Pictures opened August 23 at the
Midway and Puget Park drive-ins and at
the Federal Way Cinema.
"The Buddy Holly Story" wound up August
29 at the King Cinema in downtown
Seattle to make room the next day for an
exclusive showing of "The Inheritance."
Another new opening was "Buckstone
County Prison" at both the Bel-Kirk and
Duwamish drive-ins August 23.
"Warlords of Atlantis" was the other
opening August 23 at the Broadway Theatre
and in the Aurora. Valley and Bel-Kirk
drive-ins.
"Close Encounters of the Third Kind"
ends Wednesday (6) in 70mm and Dolby
stereophonic sound at the Crest 70 to make
room for "The Sound of Music" in 70mm
and stereo Friday (8).
Richard Pryor was appearing three nights
with singer Patti LaBelle on stage at the
Paramount Theatre. Originally he was to
appear only August 27, but ticket sales
necessitated adding additional shows for two
days before.
Peter Nero will open the new lineup of
headliners at Jack McGovern's Music Hall
Thursday (7)-Sunday (10) to be followed
by Ginger Rogers Tuesday (12)-Sunday
(17). Showgoers can purchase a complete
dinner package in addition to a show package
if they so desire. Greg Thompson's new
1979 Music Hall Follies with Julie Miller
will commence November 8.
Bud Dunwoody is the new division manager
for the state of Washington for Tom
Moyer Theatres. Bud also will manage the
Coliseum Theatre downtown. He previously
was city manager for the Tom Moyer circuit
in Portland. John Bretz will be the advertising
manager in this area in addition
to managing the Bellevue Crossroads Twin.
Tom Moyer was in the greater Seattle
area August 16 visiting his various properties.
DENVER
^larence Batter of Batter Booking is back
at his desk on a part-time basis, and
reports that he is progressing at such a rate
that he is expecting to give the datings a
full time go of it very shortly.
Warner Bros, held a screening of "Girl
Friends" at the Century Screening Room
and Paramount held a screening of Agatha
Christie's "Death on the Nile" followed by
"Up In Smoke" a day later at the Cooper
Cameo Theatre.
Frank Piazza, Fox Theatre, Walsenburg,
Colo., was in town to set dates . . . R. L.
Stanger will close the Lake Estes Drive-In
in Estes Park very soon after the Labor Day
weekend . . . Columbia salesman Ralph
Albi traveled to Salt Lake City to solicit
dates from the accounts and Columbia salesman
Bruce Marshall was traveling to Florida
for meetings.
Nerwyn Reed has targeted Thursday (7)
as the opening date for his new Wyoma
Theatre in Glenrock, Wyo. The old theatre
was destroyed in a fire last May and the
community has been without a theatre since
that
time.
Employees of the local Columbia Exchange
are contacting all accounts for collections.
The local staff is presently in first
place in their drive and considerable prize
money for the employees is involved providing
all of the outstanding film rentals are
collected.
Betty Burback has resigned as branch
manager for Rocky Mountain Film Distributors
is and moving to California where
she will be working for Warners. Betty
will be succeeded by Jerry Collins who will
be leaving the booking desk at Warners to
take over the duties at Rocky Mountain.
Authorities are working on the case of
the missing "Star Wars" print. The print
was taken from the Cine Moly Theatre.

platter and so far there has been no trace

Columbia had a KIMN Radio-sponsored
screening of "Eyes of Laura Mars" at the
Cooper Theatre on a recent Thursday night
prior to the regular Friday opening of the
picture.
TUCSON
Tnconiing U of A students were greeted
by
a churning helicopter descending to the
central mall August 22. Ralph Kelley, U of
A cinematographer fitted a camera to the
craft for filming aerial views of the new
multiple-mirror telescope atop Mount Hopkins
for a KUAT Radio-TV-Film Bureau
motion picture.
Tucsonan Patrick Joseph Wayne, who
played the part of the drummer boy at age
14 in the Tucson-made "Red Badge of
Courage" for TV, was killed in a car accident
in Wyoming August 18 where he had
a summer job in a uranium mine. Wayne
also appeared as an extra in "Dirty Dingus
Magee" as one of the school children. He
would have been in his sophomore year at
the U of A this fall majoring in agronomy.
Steve Hutchinson, former owner of Bisbee's
famed Copper Queen Hotel, has purchased
the Temple of Music and Art which
went into receivership last February. Hutchinson
currently is doing extensive renovation
work on the stately two-floor Spanishstyle
edifice downtown. Future plans include
a restaurant, art gallery on the second
floor and a sidewalk cafe in the spacious
courtyard.
Girls Friday Celebrity
Ball Slated for Sept. 9
NORTH HOLLYWOOD. CALIF.—The
Girls Friday of Show Business will sponsor
a celebrity benefit ball Saturday (9) at the
Biltmore Bowl of the Biltmore Hotel.
Cocktails are at 7:30. Dinner follows at
8:30 and a celebrity show will begin an
hour later.
Producers Herb Jaffe and Gabriel Katzka
and United Artists have acquired "Links,"
a new novel by Charles Panati.
Brilliant
Films has acquired "Names." an
original screenplay by Gerry Renert.
