Joining Forces
Nurse practitioners and physician assistants are
heavily involved in the Joining Forces initiative for military veterans
and their families. This program (http://www.whitehouse.gov/joiningforces)
reaches out to service members and their families with
resources for employment, education and wellness.
A new effort to “join forces” is taking shape in the nurse
practitioner profession. The boards of the American Academy
of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and the American College of
Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) recently voted to work toward
consolidation as one national group representing NPs in all specialties. As someone
who has observed and reported on these esteemed organizations for 19 years,
I applaud this decision.
And based on the feedback we received as soon as we posted this news on our website
and social media, many NPs feel the same way: “This is a wonderful opportunity for
there is strength in numbers” … “I am excited about the possibilities associated with
this merger” … “This couldn’t come at a better time. We need one voice.”
We at ADVANCE for NPs & PAs echo these reader comments and wish the two
boards of directors well as they navigate this complex process. Read more about
