It is critical that moral, principled, and qualified individuals step up to lead or we will only continue down this path. I believe a legislator should have real-world experience in all aspects of Alaska’s economy and be able to translate experience and a solid education into common sense legislation that benefits their district as a whole. In my aviation career, which I continue to work, I have flown for all major sectors of the Alaskan economy and can tell you first hand how this state works. The single greatest issue facing District 6 is the high cost of energy. An All-Alaska gas line will go a long way to lowering that cost. I have also encouraged additional sources of lower cost energy such as local LNG and biomass. Our state’s oil production is declining steadily. Like last session, I will lead a reform of ACES that will encourage oil exploration and stem the production declines on the North Slope, keeping the Trans-Alaska Pipeline full. We must encourage policies that help, not hinder business. A healthier business climate will lead to more jobs and greater prosperity for all. I will continue to support better education opportunities that best prepare all young Alaskans for entry into the work force, either through college or vocational training. If you’re willing to work in Alaska, you should have the opportunity to succeed.
