ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The Community Based Monitoring project thanks and offers sincere appreciation to
the Results for Development (R4D) Institute for providing funding to enable us to
conduct this study, which we feel will help highlight areas that need improvement if
services in Primary Education are to improve. The project Secretariat also thanks Mr.
Bismarck Sakunda Ndhlovu and Dr. Thomas Chataghalala Munthali from Lovell Park
Financials (LPF) Consulting Group who worked with a team of researchers from the
CBM namely Mssrs Jephter Mwanza, Nina Ghambi, John Kuyeli and Mr Clement
Masangano, a partner from the Link for Education Governance who formed the core
research team that operationalized this study. It is the hope and the spirit in which
this activity was conceived that it generates worthwhile findings, information, lessons
and culminate into actions that will put teachers’ welfare on the fore, enhance
delivery of quality teaching services and contribute to national development.
We would also like to thank all teachers from Mulanje, Kasungu and Mzimba as well
as pupils, community members and teacher’s spouses that accepted to participate in
personal as well as group interviews that helped us come up with this report. As a
project, we are committed to take these results to policy makers and key players in
the education sector so that they aid in planning and improving education services to
the benefit of all Malawians.
