The <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong> <strong><strong>In</strong>dustry</strong> Council<br />

(ADIC) is the dairy industry’s peak policy<br />

body. It co-ordinates industry policy<br />

and represents all sectors of the industry<br />

on national and international issues.<br />

The ADIC represents farmers, dairy<br />

product manufacturers and milk processors<br />

through its constituent organisations:<br />

• <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong> Farmers Limited; and<br />

• <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong> Products Federation.<br />

The ADIC has the task of bringing these<br />

bodies together to form a united view<br />

on issues affecting the dairy industry.<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong> Farmers Limited<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong> Farmers Limited<br />

(ADF) provides national representation<br />

for dairy farmers and forms the<br />

dairy commodity council of the<br />

National Farmers’ Federation.<br />

Its members include the six dairy farmer<br />

organisations, representing each state:<br />

• New South Wales Farmers’<br />

Association’s <strong>Dairy</strong> Committee<br />

NSWFA);<br />

• Queensland <strong>Dairy</strong>farmers’<br />

Organisation (QDO);<br />

• South <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong>farmers’<br />

Association (SADA);<br />

• Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers<br />

Association’s <strong>Dairy</strong> Council (TFGA);<br />

• United <strong>Dairy</strong>farmers of Victoria<br />

(UDV); and<br />

• Western <strong>Australian</strong> Farmers’<br />

Federation’s <strong>Dairy</strong> Council (WAFF).<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong><br />

Products Federation<br />

The <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong> Products Federation<br />

(ADPF) is the national organisation<br />

representing the interests of dairy product<br />

manufacturers and traders. The ADPF’s<br />

primary purpose is to promote the<br />

interests of its members, and the dairy<br />

industry in general, to the <strong>Australian</strong><br />

and State Governments and other<br />

sectors of the community.<br />

State food safety organisations<br />

Each state has a food safety organisation<br />

to ensure that individual processors<br />

and dairy farmers comply with<br />

food safety standards.<br />

The <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Dairy</strong> Authorities<br />

Standards Committee (ADASC), with<br />

representatives from each state food safety<br />

organisation, ensures there is a national<br />

approach to dairy food safety issues.<br />

ADASC is responsible for the <strong>Australian</strong><br />

Milk Residue Analysis (AMRA) survey.<br />

The six relevant state food safety<br />

organisations are:<br />

• New South Wales Food Authority;<br />

• Safe Food Queensland;<br />

• <strong>Dairy</strong> Authority of South Australia;<br />

• Tasmanian <strong>Dairy</strong> <strong><strong>In</strong>dustry</strong> Authority;<br />

• <strong>Dairy</strong> Food Safety Victoria; and<br />

• Department of Health, Western<br />

Australia <strong>Dairy</strong> Safety Unit.<br />
