Šarić explains. – Furthermore, a kitchen is not a piece of
furniture like a chair, where it would be enough to just
take it out of the box. Putting together a kitchen is a complex
and extensive work, during which you often discover
that something doesn’t fit or isn’t good. The industry is a
sluggish giant that has a hard time correcting such mistakes,
especially if the person who’s supposed to correct
that mistake is physically a thousand kilometres away,
and there are at least ten communication obstacles between
him and the buyer. Smaller manufacturers’ kitchens
are usually put together by those who produced that
kitchen and who know it inside out. Design represents yet
another advantage. We aren’t able to hire an army of
professional designers, but we can enable buyers to design
the kitchen themselves. In our kitchen every door can
have different colouring, and every part of the corps can
be “marked” with a different tape. Another advantage
is the fact that we can make all kinds of things besides
a kitchen using identical materials and identical colours.
For example, all the other laminated furniture in the same
space… - Mario Šarić presents some of his arguments
“for” local manufacturers.
These days, even the local wood-equipment shops are
well equipped with fronts made of “complete wood”,
chipboard, MDF boards, or larger boards that are “custom-cut”
and have their edges covered in ABS tape,
along with the inevitable chipboard that makes a larger
part of the kitchen (the so called invisible part). Chains,
“pantas”, more or less expensive “stoppers” for drawers,
modern solutions such as “carousels”, which use up
hard-access areas in the corner, finished quality drawers
with fronts attached to them, deep or less deep inox
baskets… it’s all on the market and very accessible as
well. There are some solutions that are much more simple
and cheap, but leading local manufacturers tend to use
more expensive elements of kitchen equipment to get as
close as possible to top-quality brands of the world. – We
don’t want to make compromises and affect the quality
of our products – Mario Šarić points out – For example,
you can buy one of those little handles for 50 lipas in Zagreb.
But attaching such a handle on a “pante” doorway
and then putting a little plate with a Šarić Kitchens
logo is not something I want to do. Just as I don’t want to
send somebody over to Cres or Lošinj in several months to
change a couple of those handles because they were
broken during the guarantee period.
Because of the ever-increasing competition, serious
kitchen creators mostly offer multi-year guarantees to
their products, as well as make them from quality parts.
Carpenter trades know where to find the cheapest and
best-quality repro-materials, the serious local manufacturers
order large parts of their materials abroad, and some
manufacturers even produce their own fronts. Thanks to
all of them, the problem of the kitchen space that doesn’t
reach certain standards is fixable without any unfortunate
“holes” between the composition and the walls, and the
owner’s creativity can be expressed because, with a little
effort, local companies can make even the most unusually
designed kitchen according to his/her wishes. The
majority of serious local manufacturers regularly develop
new products and look for new materials, colours and
elements. People we talked to confirm the same thing.
