Foreword
We are very pleased to welcome you to the Holland Film Meeting
2008 and, in particular, to the seventh edition of the Netherlands
Production Platform (NPP) in its present form.
The NPP Dossier 2008 contains descriptions and other vital
information supplied by the producers of the selected projects.
All other practical information about the Holland Film Meeting,
as well as information about guests, may be found in the HFM
Industry Guide.
The selection this year was not an easy process. We
received many projects we would have loved to introduce to both
the Dutch and the international film community. However, the
format of the NPP only allows the presentation of a limited
number of projects if we are to avoid an overloaded programme.
Continuing our policy of bringing together countries with a
high and low production capacity and combining the talent of
directors, writers and producers, we have selected 6 Dutch film
projects and 14 from Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany,
Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey
and the UK.
Every year, we carry out a survey among the participating
companies in order to improve the event. Based on this feedback,
we have now separated the presentations of the Dutch and
European projects. The 14 European projects will be discussed
on Friday morning, September 26; the Dutch projects on Saturday
morning, September 27. On Friday afternoon, a public session
should answer all our foreign guests’ questions with regard to
“What foreign producers should know about the Netherlands”.
The Dutch film industry will be given the opportunity to present
itself, and to discuss rules and regulations when it comes to coproducing.
That the NPP does indeed make things happen is proved by
the results of last year’s selection. To name but a few, Dutch
producers Circe Film and Isabella Films both received coproduction
monies for, respectively, Radu Jude’s The Happiest
Girl in the World (Hi Film Productions, Romania) and Hungarian
project Adrienn Pál by Ágnes Kocsis (Print KMH); Marleen Gorris’
My Father’s Notebook found a German co-producer; and Rotterdam-based
Another Film/De Productie signed with a sales agent
for Cold. A survey of the results from the previous years will be
available at the NPP.
The Holland Film Meeting also includes the Benelux
Screenings, showing new Dutch films with English subtitles in the
cinema, and the latest feature films and other audio-visual works
from the Benelux in the video library; the Binger-Screen International
Interview; and the Variety Cinema Militans lecture.
This year’s edition has been made possible with the support
of the Dutch Film Fund (HGIS-Cultuurmiddelen), the MEDIA
Programme of the European Union and the Ministry of Education,
Culture and Science. We also thank our new and established
partners as listed opposite, without whose generous support the
NPP 2008 would not have been possible.
Networking, establishing new contacts and finding partners
within the framework of the round-table sessions, the individual
meetings, the lunches and cocktails, form the basic elements of
the Platform. The staff of the Holland Film Meeting are ready to
provide assistance where and whenever needed!
