Wisotronic dialog 1-Channel Central
Control Unit EWFS ® With the Wisotronic dialog you now own a multifunctional sun protection control
1. General
unit which can control various sun protection products (slat products, cloth
products, roller shutters, etc.) intelligently in accordance with the respective
weather conditions.
You can either operate your sun protection products manually or leave the
operation completely to the automatic control products. The Wisotronic dialog
protects your sunblind against harmful weather influences and offer extensive
comfort and safety functions. The Wisotronic dialog can furthermore be operated
via an EWFS radio remote control unit (1 or 8 channels), whereby the radio
receiver is integrated in the control panel.
The Wisotronic dialog evaluates the data for:
® Wind,
® Rain,
® Brightness,
® Internal and external temperature,
and correspondingly controls the corrected sun protection products, such as slat
products (outside venetian blinds, internal venetian blinds), cloth products
(awnings, pleated blinds), vertical venetian blinds, darkening units and roller
shutters.
Wisotronic dialog 1-Channel Central
Control Unit EWFS ® We have developed, manufactured and tested the Wisotronic under observance
2. For your safety
of the fundamental safety requirements.
Residual risks nevertheless remain!
■
Therefore read these instructions before you operate the control system the
first time. They help you to get to know the functions of the device and to use
them optimally.
■
Therefore keep these instructions at a place which is accessible at all times for
all users!
Hierarchic warnings are used in these instructions.
They are identified by a warning sign in the margin and graded hierarchically as
follows:
1. WARNING
2. ATTENTION
3. CAUTION
WARNING
ATTENTION
The term WARNING is used as a warning against immediate
imminent danger.
Death or serious injuries may result (damage to persons)
The term ATTENTION is used as a warning against a possible
imminent danger.
Death, serious or minor injuries (damage to persons), damage to
property or damage to the environment may result.
CAUTION
The term CAUTION is used as an application
recommendation.
Damage to property may result from non-observance.
Wisotronic dialog 1-Channel Central
Control Unit EWFS ® In addition to the hierarchic warnings described above we use the following
symbols:
TIP
This is used to mark text sections which contain additional
explanations, information or hints.
■ This sign identifies
- Activities which you must carry out, or
- Instructions which must be observed.
2.1 Usage to the intended
purpose
ATTENTION
The control system allows the connection of a conventional
sun protection drive with a single-phase a.c. motor.
Alternatively several sun protection drives can be connected
together via motor control units.
The approval of the manufacturer has to be obtained if the device
is to be used to a purpose different to that described here. Usage
which is not to the intended purpose can result in damage to the
user or third parties as well as damage to the device itself, the
connected devices or to the moving mechanical parts of the
complete system.
■
Therefore always use our product to the intended purpose only!
2.2 Target group
These instructions are intended for all those persons who operate the device. If
you require additional information, please contact your specialist dealer.
Operation by persons who are not sufficiently qualified and
informed can cause severe damage to the system or even
damage to persons!
ATTENTION
■
Mounting and commissioning may therefore only be carried out by
correspondingly trained specialists! This personnel must be able to recognize
dangers which can be caused by the mechanical, electrical or electronic
equipment!
ATTENTION
If it is to be assumed that safe operation is not possible, the
device may not be taken into operation or it must be shut
down.
■
This assumption is justified if the device or the connecting cables show
damage or if the device no longer functions.
Wisotronic dialog 1-Channel Central
Control Unit EWFS ® The Wisotronic controls your sunblind automatically. You must therefore observe
2.3 General safety
instructions
the following safety instructions:
An automatically controlled mechanism can start moving
unexpectedly!
ATTENTION
■
■
Therefore never place any objects in the area of movement of an automatically
controlled mechanism!
If measuring or test work has to be carried out on the active system, ensure
that existing accident prevention regulations are observed under all
circumstances.
CAUTION
An automatically controlled sunblind (for example roller
shutters at balcony doors) can move downwards
automatically and lock you out! If the Wisotronic controls
such sunblinds via an automatic system, you should "play it
safe" and de-activate these temporarily when you leave the
house!
CAUTION
The complete system cannot function if the power fails.
Therefore move your sunblind to a safe position in time if a
storm is imminent!
Children must not play with this product. Remote control
units of all types must not fall into the hands of children!
ATTENTION
The following documents are available in addition to these instructions:
Operating and display elements of the Wisotronic dialog
1. Clearly-structured 4-line display: This display informs you about all the
elements that you can set or read on the Wisotronic. You can, for example,
read the current measured values of the outdoor brightness and temperature
or the current time.
2. Function buttons: Various processes can be triggered by using the function
buttons, depending on what is displayed. You can, for example, save your
settings, change menu displays and modify limits. Manual operation of the
sunblind is also carried out by means of the function buttons. The assignment
of the individual buttons is indicated by symbols which can be viewed above
the buttons in the display.
3. Function dial: This dial with latching function allows the easy selection of
menus or the display of current weather data and measured values in the
display. If the dial is pressed, the move command currently being executed is
interrupted and the connected sunblind is stopped immediately.
TIP
Move commands which were triggered by safety functions
(wind, rain or ice monitoring) cannot be stopped!
3.2 Basic functions
extent. If the control system was commissioned and set by your specialist dealer,
you usually do not have to modify anything. You can access the following displays
by turning the function dial.
TIP
The displays shown in these instructions are examples. The
displayed entries which can be modified may therefore differ
from those on the display of your Wisotronic.
3.2.1 Display of the room
temperature
3.2.2 Display of the position and
cause/manual operation
This standard display always consists of the display of the current room
temperature and is displayed automatically when the Wisotronic has not been
operated for three minutes.
X
H
Temperature
23° C
T
If the buttons under the "UP" or "DOWN" symbols are pressed, the sunblind (here
connected to Channels 1 and 2) is moved in the corresponding direction. Instead
of the room temperature the cause and direction of movement are then
displayed:
Cause
H
T
wh
Upper half: Shows whether the sunblind is being moved currently and which
action triggered a move command.
Lower half: If the buttons under the "UP" or "DOWN" symbols are pressed, the
sunblind is moved in the corresponding direction.
■ Press the button T and the sunblind moves down. If you want to stop the
movement, press the button of the opposite direction, in this case H.
Alternatively you can press the function dial. This always has a higher priority
and also stops the movement, even if the arrows H and T are not visible on
the display or if the move commands were triggered by the remote control.
TIP
Move commands which were triggered by safety functions
(wind, rain or ice monitoring) cannot be stopped!
Note: The move behavior and the operation depend on the set sunblind product.
CAUTION
Changing the user settings can impair the safety of the
system or reduce its effectiveness! If you are not sure what
effect a change has, consult an expert.
6.1 Sun control
The sun control is one of the most important comfort functions of the Wisotronic
because the most important control mode for sun protection products is that of
controlling as a function of the brightness. The sensors "Wind/Photo", "Wind/Photo/Radio
clock" or the sensor "Photo" (180°) can be used to detect the brightness.
If the brightness exceeds the set "Down" limit, a move command is triggered and
the sunblind is moved downwards. If the "Photo" measured value drops below the
set "Up" limit, the sunblind is moved upwards again.
The following values can be changed:
6.1.3 Sun control delay "DOWN"
A delay can be assigned to the limit "DOWN" so that the sun protection does not
move down immediately whenever the brightness changes (for example when
the sun shines temporarily through an otherwise heavy layer of cloud). This
smooths the movement behavior of the sun protection and thus increases the
comfort. If the limits are reached or exceeded for the duration of this delay period,
the "DOWN" command is triggered and the sun protection is moved down. The
setting range is from 0 - 99 minutes. Proceed as follows in order to change the
6.1.8 Sun control delay "OPEN"
This function only makes sense if you have selected a slat product (external
be assigned to the "OPEN" limit so that the slats are not turned open immediately
whenever the intensity of brightness changes (for example if the clouds only
become denser temporarily). This smooths the movement behavior of the sun
protection and thus increases the comfort. The turn command is triggered and the
slats are turned open if the limits are reached or if the value drops below these
limits for the duration of the delay period. The setting range is from 0 - 99
6.1.8.1 The "OPEN" limit
The following instructions for the setting of the "DOWN", "OPEN" and "UP" limits
have to be observed in order for the sun control to function properly in connection
with the "OPEN" limit:
■
■
■
The lowest value must always be the value for "UP", for example 5 klx
The highest value must always be the value for "DOWN", for example 30 klx
The value for "OPEN" must be set between these values, for example 10 klx.
TIP
In order to find the optimal setting for your sun protection
system you should test various values on a bright day with
varying cloud situations. This is the only way of obtaining the
optimum result.
Fig. 6-4: Course of brightness and movement behavior
The thick black curve represents the course of brightness. The two horizontal
lines are the limits specified by you for moving the sun protection up or down.
The vertical dashed lines mark the delay periods for activating and de-activating.
Let us assume that you have set 2 minutes for this delay period, then the sun
protection reacts as follows:
The outdoor brightness increases until Point 1 of the curve is reached. The
"DOWN" limit is reached here. The "DOWN" delay period now begins but your sun
protection is not yet moved down. The brightness drops below the "DOWN" limit
at Point 2 of the curve before the "DOWN" delay period has expired. Your sun
protection has remained at the top position.
Later on the brightness increases again and exceeds the "DOWN" limit once more
at Point 3. The "DOWN" delay period now begins to run again so that your sun
protection is not yet moved down. However, the "DOWN" delay period has already
expired at Point 4 and the limit is still exceeded - the sun protection now moves
down.
Now a cloud moves in front of the sun and your rooms slowly become too dark.
The limit "UP" is dropped at point 5. Nothing happens yet, because the "UP" delay
period now first starts - the sun protection therefore does not move up yet. The
"UP" delay period has finally expired at Point 6 and the brightness still lies below
the "UP" limit. The sun protection now moves up again.
The correct setting of the delay periods thus results in a comfortable control of
the sun protection. It contributes to "smoothening" the reaction behavior of the
control system. This ensures that the sun protection is not moved immediately
whenever the outside brightness changes.
TIP
The graphic also illustrates clearly that the "DOWN" limit
always has to be set higher than the "UP" limit - otherwise
the sun control does not function.
"temperature" sensor
As already described earlier, the Wisotronic disposes of a temperature sensor
built into the device with which the required measured values can be recorded.
Alternatively an additional sensor input is available. Either a sensor for interior
temperature or for external temperature can be connected here. You can set
which sensor is to be evaluated by the temperature control:
■ Change to the temperature control menu as described above. Turn the
function dial until the following display appears:
If the value Internal is set, the temperature control evaluates the sensor built into
the device. If the value External is set, the temperature control evaluates the
sensor which is connected externally.
6.7 Manual operation
Control Unit EWFS ® In this section you learn how your sun protection can be operated manually. Different
sun protection products also require different control behaviors. For example,
it makes sense at external venetian blinds to be able to adjust the slat angle by
means of a short move command, whereas this does not make much sense at
awnings or roller shutters. Depending on the sun protection product which is to
be controlled, you can choose between the following control modes:
® Dead man’s mode
® Time mode
® Permanent mode
® Continuous mode
6.7.1 "Dead man’s mode"
6.7.2 "Time mode"
6.7.3 "Permanent mode"
6.7.4 "Continuous mode"
In this setting the sunblind moves in the desired direction until the button is
released again.
This control mode is particularly suitable for slat products such as external
venetian blinds or internal venetian blinds: The sunblind moves in the
corresponding direction after the button has been pressed. If the button is
pressed for longer than 2.5 seconds, the control system remains locked. The
button can then be released. The sun protection moves until the set runtime has
expired. In order to de-activate the lock mode and stop the motor, the button with
the opposite move command has to be pressed briefly. The slats are turned up
after the "DOWN" runtime has expired.
If you only want to turn the slats, just press one of the buttons briefly.
If you want the slats to remain closed after moving down, press the "Down"
button once more during the "DOWN" runtime. The sunblind moves until the end
of the runtime - the slats do not turn up.
This control mode is suitable for, for example, roller shutters and cloth products.
The runtime starts immediately after the "Up" button has been pressed. The
sunblind is moved up. If the "Down" button is pressed during the up movement,
the drive stops. The adjustable runtime is started immediately after the "Down"
button has been pressed. The sun protection is moved down. If the "Up" button is
pressed during the down movement, the drive stops.
This control mode is particularly suitable for lighting equipment: Brief pressing of
the "Up" button - the connected device is switched on and the runtime is set to
"endless". Brief pressing of the "Down" button - the device is switched off again.
TIP
The set control mode also operates with the remote control.
The movement can also be stopped by pressing the function
dial.
process.
CAUTION
The ice alert now remains reset until the conditions for an ice
alert exist again: If the external temperature drops below the
set limit AND rain falls, the ice alert is activated again.
We therefore recommend that you enable the ice alert in due
course, in particular if your sunblind is not observed
constantly (for example in your absence).
6.9.2 Enabling the ice alert
again
An ice alert is saved in the Wisotronic for the duration of the ice condition. An
example: Because the external temperature dropped below the freezing point
during the night and freezing rain fell briefly afterwards, the ice alert is triggered,
the sunblind is moved up and operation blocked. When you wanted to operate
your sunblind the next morning, you found the ice alert. Because you wanted to
operate the sunblind nevertheless, you reset the ice alert and have, for example,
moved your external venetian blinds down. In the evening you want to enable the
ice alert again, because the frost still exists. Because the ice condition continues
to exist, the sunblind moves up again immediately after the ice alert has been
enabled!
CAUTION
Therefore first ensure that your sun protection cannot be
damaged by the movement: External venetian blinds and
roller shutters, cassette awnings and conservatory awnings
can be frozen tight in their guide rails. If the ice alert is
enabled nevertheless while frost continues, damage to
property may result! If the sunblind is operated during icing,
all guarantees and liabilities expire!
Wisotronic dialog 1-Channel Central
Control Unit EWFS ® Proceed as follows in order to change the product type:
7.2.1 Product type
■
Change to the product settings menu as described above and select a
channel. The following display is shown:
Product
product type
Conserv. awning
— + | }
TIP
When you have selected the product type and saved it, the
values from the two tables shown at the front are set
automatically. If you have carried out changes to the settings
beforehand, your values are overwritten completely during
saving (this does not apply to the date and time or remote
controls already learned).
■ Change the product type by using the buttons — + and then press the
button | (save). If you want to exit the menu without saving the changes,
press the }button twice consecutively. This completes the process.
You have now changed the product type and together with this setting step the
Wisotronic has carried out all the sensible settings for the sun protection product
used. As a rule you do not have to carry out any further settings, unless you wish
to optimize the control behavior further.
7.2.2 Runtimes
The runtime of a sunblind is the time which the sunblind requires in order to move
from one end setting to the other (for example from top to bottom). If a sun
protection product is set as described above, sensible runtime and turn times are
also set for this product in the Wisotronic. Normally it is not necessary to
intervene here. This section describes how you can nevertheless carry out these
adjustments.
Experience shows that the runtimes of sunblind products differ. Thus a roller
shutter with 150 cm length required a much shorter runtime than a folding arm
awning with 300 cm extension. These runtimes can be adjusted to the connected
product down to the second at the Wisotronic. You can also set separate runtimes
for "UP" and "DOWN" because a sunblind requires more time to move up than to
move down. Note: The runtimes are set to mean values in our works.
TIP
Always adapt the runtime as precisely as possible to the
actual runtime of the sunblind. If you want to stop the
sunblind automatically in a specific position by the sun control,
do not use the runtime to this purpose, but rather the
(as in our simple example) the slats have been turned from the position "+80°" to
the position "-80°". In addition this turn time differs for various product types. For
example, an internal venetian blind requires approximately 0.5 seconds, whereas
this procedure can also take 1.6 seconds for an outside venetian blind, type
E80A6. If this turn time is known, you only have to store it once in your
Wisotronic together with the minimum and maximum possible turning angle.
Afterwards the turning angles can be specified by simply entering angle degrees.
Time-consuming determining of turn times and experimenting are superfluous.
The following table shows the most common product types and their turn times/
turning angles (only WAREMA products are listed here. If you want to control
products of other manufacturers, please contact the respective manufacturer).
Slat type
Description Max.
Min. Turntime
(slat) angle (°) angle (°) (Sec.)
E80A6 flanged +80 -80 1,6
E80AF Flat slat +80 0 0,8
E60A6 flanged +75 -75 1,3
E100AF Flat slat +80 0 1,1
E50A1 Flat slat +70 -70 1,0
If, for example, you have mounted external venetian blinds of the type E80A6,
you have to set a value of 1.6 seconds for the turn time, a value of +80° for the
maximum turning angle and -80° for the minimum turning angle.
Wisotronic therefore includes a permanent wind monitoring function which
protects your sun protection against storm damage. In case of a wind alert the
sun protection is moved up automatically and cannot be moved either manually or
Wind speed and move behavior
The thick black curve represents the course of the wind speed. The horizontal line
represents the limit set by you for moving the sun protection up. The vertical
dashed lines mark the delay periods for activating and de-activating. Let us
assume that you have set 5 seconds for the activation delay period and 2 minutes
for de-activation delay period, then the sun protection reacts as follows:
The wind speed increases until Point 1 of the curve is reached. The limit for
moving the sun protection up is reached here. The "UP" delay period now begins
to run so that your sun protection is not yet moved up. At Point 2 of the curve the
speed drops below the limit for moving up. The delay period is now canceled
before it has expired and your sun protection has remained below.
Later on the wind speed increases again and exceeds the limit once more at Point
3. The "UP" delay period now begins to run again so that your sun protection is not
yet moved up. However, the delay period has already expired at Point 4 and the
limit is still exceeded - the sun protection now moves up.
The wind now drops again and its speed drops below the "Up" limit at Point 5.
Nothing happens yet, because the de-activation delay period now first starts - the
sun protection therefore does not travel down yet. At Point 6 the de-activation
delay period has finally expired and the speed still lies below the limit. The wind
monitoring function now enables the operation of the sun protection again.
The correct setting of the delay periods thus results in a comfortable control of
the sun protection. It contributes to "smoothening" the reaction behavior of the
control system. This ensures that the sun protection is not moved immediately
whenever the wind speed changes.
7.3.3 Wind monitoring delay
"UP"
You can assign a delay period to the wind alert separately so that your sunblind is
not moved up at each gust of wind. If the wind limits are reached or exceeded for
the duration of this delay period, the wind alert is triggered and the sunblind is
moved up. At a wind speed above 20 m/s a further safety function of the
Wisotronic is activated. The sunblind is moved up immediately. The activation
delay period is skipped in this case. The setting range is from 0 - 20 seconds.
