It’s great to see everyone in full school uniform and eager to learn. L Team also welcomes a number of new teachers: Ms Neumann, Ms Macfarlane, Mr McLeod, Ms Angel and Ms Balthazar. With Term 1 well underway, there are a few important points parents/carers and students should be aware of. All Year 7 and 8 students have now been given forms for the school photo day to be held on Thursday 28 th February . Students need to ensure they present their envelope with the exact amount of money to the photographer on the day. L Team Report to ensure the notebooks are charged nightly so that they do not need to bring their chargers to school. Due to health and safety concerns, students cannot charge their notebooks during class. If your child is absent, a call to the school is required. If you are unable to call the school, please send a note to the homegroup teacher the following day explaining their absence. If parents/carers need any further information or would like to discuss the progress of their child, please feel free to call either myself or your child’s homegroup teacher on 9365 4111. We look forward to working cooperatively together for the best outcomes for all of our students. We are well into Term one and praise is in order for the way in which all students have begun the year. Everyone is encouraged to continue with the same attitude and application, and to continue to represent our College well with the way in which we wear our uniform. T Team welcomes all our students back into a new and fantastic school year. We are also pleased to introduce all our Year 9 students to the team. C Team Report Our students have begun to settle in well and promptly attending all classes including their exciting electives. I would like to mention how wonderful it has been to see all our students in proper school uniform and uphold this with pride. There are many significant events approaching this term and many opportunities for our students to achieve and demonstrate a range of different abilities and skills. Again, welcome back and let us all make this a highly successful year for all of our students. Parents and carers are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs. Reasonably low cost accident insurance policies are available from commercial insurers.
I s s u e N o . 1 P a g e 5 The Student Representative Council has been accepting applications for student members. This year we are trialling a new model which creates a number of Executive roles for students to take on additional responsibilities and develop their leadership. Kings Park SRC Update We are also very excited to be producing a college-wide magazine, made by students for students. Last year we applied for a grant from Brimbank/Melton School Focused Youth Service and were successful. We have $3,640 to produce the first edition of our college-wide student magazine this semester. This includes training for our SRC Executive in running an effective committee and photography and design workshops for the magazine Editorial Team. Students are encouraged to email their submissions for the magazine (stories, photos, drawings, poetry, news and reviews) to src.team.kingspark@gmail.com or hand in to their SRC class representative. Submissions are due on Monday 18 March, 2013. Students are also encouraged to join the Editorial Team and help with editing and designing the magazine. These opportunities provide students with experience in applying their skills to a realworld situation. Expressions of interest can be made to Ms Pham. Copperfield College Uniform The Copperfield College uniform is available from the PSW Deer Park store: 58 Westwood Drive, Deer Park Ph: 9363 8458 Monday to Friday: 8.30am -5.00pm Saturday: 9.00am - 5.00pm Uniform items can also be purchased online Orders can be delivered to your home! www.psw.com.au IN 2 SPORT Are you interested in playing sport with a club, but the costs of joining and buying the uniform, equipment you need etc are too expensive You may be eligible for a grant through the Brimbank City Council. Through their program In 2 Sport they are providing grants of up to $200 for eligible students between the ages of 6 -18 whose family has a pension concession card or health care card. The money is to be used to pay for the costs associated with joining the club. Salvo Saints Basketball Club If you are aged 8-18 and interested in playing basketball contact our secretary or visit our website for more information. Winter season commences first week of term two. To be eligible for the EMA in 2013, you must: be either a parent or guardian of a primary or secondary school student up to the age of sixteen; and be an eligible beneficiary of a Centrelink pension, allowance or benefit within the meaning of the State Concessions Act 2004* or be a Veterans Affairs (TPI) pensioner or be a temporary foster parent. i.e – the parent/guardian must be the holder of a valid Health Care Card or valid Pension Card. The eligibility criteria must be met as at 29 January 2013 (Instalment One) and 15 July 2013 (Instalment Two). Contact the School Office for an EMA application form and to lodge your application. The closing date for EMA application forms to be submitted to the school is 28 February 2013. Late applications cannot be accepted. Instrumental Music Our campus offers a range of instrumental music to all students. Instruments offered are: Drums, Guitar, Woodwind (e.g. saxophone, flute), Bass Guitar, singing lessons.
