Laurentian Bas<strong>in</strong><br />

• The bas<strong>in</strong> is a hybrid Mesozoic bas<strong>in</strong> developed between the<br />

Scotian shelf and slope and the Newfoundland Transfer Zone<br />

(NTZ); dur<strong>in</strong>g Late Triassic - Middle Jurassic the Laurentian<br />

Bas<strong>in</strong> had aff<strong>in</strong>ity with the Scotian Bas<strong>in</strong><br />

• Large Paleozoic extensional and transtensional structures are<br />

mapped <strong>in</strong> the northern part of the bas<strong>in</strong>. In the south large<br />

Mesozoic structural and stratigraphic features are observed<br />

• In the early eighties, several <strong>Exploration</strong> Permits were held which<br />

stretched the unsettled <strong>in</strong>ternational boundaries of Canada and<br />

France and prov<strong>in</strong>cial boundaries of Newfoundland and Labrador<br />

and Nova Scotia, by Gulf, Mobil, Texaco and Imperial Oil<br />

• The Bandol #1 well was drilled <strong>in</strong> 2001 on a shelf location and <strong>in</strong><br />

French territory by Murphy et al.; while it was rumoured to have<br />

found good Mesozoic reservoir, the well rema<strong>in</strong>s confidential until<br />

2011. This is the only exist<strong>in</strong>g well <strong>in</strong> a 60,000 km 2 area<br />
