Seals<br />

F<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g good seals should not be a problem <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Jeanne</strong><br />

d’Arc Bas<strong>in</strong> as the extensional and thermal subsidence<br />

stages conta<strong>in</strong>s a succession of very f<strong>in</strong>e clastics, tight<br />

sandstones and carbonates<br />

•Oil and gas accumulations are sealed by thick overly<strong>in</strong>g shales<br />

abundant dur<strong>in</strong>g the Late Jurassic to Late Cretaceous (e.g.<br />

Fortune Bay, Cape Broyle (White Rose), and Nautilus shales)<br />

•Also <strong>in</strong>tra-<strong>for</strong>mational shales are widespread with<strong>in</strong> the rift<br />

stage clastic sequences<br />

•Excellent regional seals are provided by f<strong>in</strong>e gra<strong>in</strong>ed Late<br />

Cretaceous Dawson Canyon Fm. and the Tertiary f<strong>in</strong>e clastics<br />

Banquereau Fm.<br />
