Prerequisite: Audition with band director.These courses may be<br />

repeated for credit.<br />

Singers and Instrumentalists will work together on a wide range<br />

of musical styles and perform in small vocal groups, string ensembles,<br />

jazz combos, and as soloists. As students progress from level<br />

I to level IV, they will play an increasingly advanced level of music<br />

selections which will require them to refine their skills with reading,<br />

notating, composing, conducting, critiquing, and improvising.<br />

Prerequisite:Ability to play a band instrument and audition with the<br />

band director<br />

The Wind Ensemble courses focus on developing skills with<br />

music performance, reading, and notating as well as listening, analyzing,<br />

and evaluating diverse musical styles. As students develop<br />

their technical skills, they will have opportunities to compose,<br />

arrange, and improvise.The level of discipline, responsibility, and<br />

difficulty all increase as students progress from Wind Ensemble I<br />

to Wind Ensemble Band IV. Extracurricular opportunities may<br />

include jazz band, pep band, district/state level honors band,<br />

chamber ensembles, and solo recitals.<br />

String Orchestra I<br />

Prerequisite: Three years playing experience or audition with the<br />

teacher.This course may be repeated for credit.<br />

String Orchestra II<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra I.<br />

String Orchestra III<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra I.<br />

This course may be repeated for credit.<br />

Honors String Orchestra III<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra III<br />

String Orchestra IV<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra III.<br />

Honors String Orchestra IV<br />

musical styles from different cultures and time periods.The level<br />

of discipline, responsibility, and difficulty all increase as students<br />

progress from level I to level IV. String orchestra students will<br />

prepare and present concerts locally and may participate in<br />

district and state-wide festivals and competitions. Students in the<br />

Honors String Orchestra courses will meet more demanding<br />

standards for performance and demonstrate greater mastery of<br />

music theory, notating, appreciation, and history. Honors string<br />

orchestra students may perform as members of one or more<br />

chamber ensembles and as soloists.<br />

Symphony Orchestra I<br />

Prerequisite: Three years of playing experience or audition with the<br />

teacher<br />

Symphony Orchestra II<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra I or audition with the teacher.<br />

Symphony Orchestra III<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra II.This course may be repeated for credit.<br />

Honors Symphony Orchestra III<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra II, Honors String Orchestra II, or<br />

audition with teacher.This course may not be repeated for credit<br />

Symphony Orchestra IV<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra III, Honors String Orchestra III, or<br />

audition with the teacher. This course may be repeated for credit.<br />

Honors Symphony Orchestra IV<br />

Prerequisite: String Orchestra III, Honors String Orchestra III, or audition<br />

with the teacher. This course may not be repeated for credit<br />

Symphony Orchestra courses combine strings, woodwind, brass,<br />

and percussion students to study and perform orchestral music.<br />

as well as listening, analyzing, and evaluating musical styles from<br />
