Decision-Making (second semester) 95202DM2<br />

The goal of this course is to help students respond flexibly and<br />

appropriately to a variety of life situations. By understanding the<br />

consequences of their decisions, taking ownership of their choices,<br />

and learning to solve problems, students gain control of their<br />

lives. Special education students in any grade or course of study<br />

may enroll in this course to improve their social skills.<br />

Learning Strategies (first semester) 95202LS1<br />

Learning Strategies (second semester) 95202LS2<br />

Prerequisite: 9th grade classification<br />

9th grade students learn strategies to help them achieve success<br />

with their academic courses. Students learn to organize their<br />

notebooks, use their academic agenda books, and take effective<br />

notes. They also learn strategies for increasing their vocabulary,<br />

writing sentences, and constructing paragraphs. Students may<br />

spend part of each class period implementing the learned strategies<br />

in their current coursework.<br />

Skills for Success 95202SS<br />

This course focuses on helping students succeed in many areas<br />

of teenage life. Topics include leadership development, selfesteem<br />

building, personal problem solving, and relationships.<br />

Class participation is a must.<br />

Media Center Assistant 95152<br />

This course may be repeated for a total of two credits.<br />

Students are expected to master the competencies outlined in<br />

the curriculum standards approved by the State Board of<br />

Education for the Student Library Media Assistants Pro-gram.<br />

Among other skills, students will demonstrate a working knowledge<br />

of the media center’s organization and collections, will learn<br />

to select and use materials and equipment for specific purposes,<br />

will design and/or produce instructional materials, and will<br />

demonstrate an understanding of computers, digital media and<br />

other innovative technologies and their application to solving relevant<br />

problems. Students provide support for users of the<br />

media center and its technologies.<br />

Computer Media Assistant 95152CMA<br />

This course may be repeated for a total of two credits.<br />

This is an exciting elective for students who like computers and<br />

like helping others learn about them. Students are expected to<br />

master competencies outlined in the curriculum standards. In<br />

addition to integrating digital media and other applications and<br />

related skills, students demonstrate the use of the computer as a<br />

research tool, a productivity tool, and a communication tool.<br />

Students provide support for users of computer technologies.<br />
