FOUNDATIONAL COURSES<br />
Health Sciences I 7211<br />
Prerequisite: None<br />
Students learn how the health care delivery system provides<br />
services to patients. Students become fluent with the language<br />
and terminology of medicine and get an overview of medical<br />
mathematics, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, diseases and<br />
disorders and their treatments, and patient care regimens.<br />
Health Sciences II 72<strong>12</strong> (Completer <strong>Course</strong>)<br />
Prerequisite: Health Science I or Medical Sciences I<br />
Through classroom study and a 65 hour clinical internship, student<br />
become proficient with the skills needed to become valued<br />
health care team members. Students learn emergency care and<br />
safety skills as well as the record keeping skills required by a medical<br />
facility.<br />
Biomedical Technology 7200<br />
Prerequisite: None<br />
Students survey current medical and health care practices using<br />
computerized databases, the internet, the media, and by visiting<br />
health care professionals. They become fluent with the language<br />
and terminology of medicine and get an overview of biomedical<br />
technology, specialties and ethics.<br />
Medical Sciences I 7221<br />
Prerequisite: None<br />
Students investigate the science of medicine and health care<br />
as they learn anatomy and physiology and study diseases and<br />
disorders.<br />
Medical Sciences II 7222 (Completer <strong>Course</strong>)<br />
Prerequisite: Health Science I or Medical Science I<br />
Students learn best medical practices in the areas of safety and<br />
bioethics. They learn about the procedures medical professionals<br />
use to assess and diagnose diseases and disorders as they<br />
complete a 45 hour mentorship with a health care professional.<br />
Health Sciences Advanced Studies 7299<br />
Prerequisite:Three credits in the Health Science Cluster<br />
This is a three-phased exit course for seniors who are career<br />
focused in the Health Sciences. Students demonstrate their<br />
ability to use content and apply knowledge to real world<br />
situations through the three components of the program<br />
including a research paper, a product, and a presentation.<br />
Health Team Relations 7210<br />
Prerequisite: None<br />
It takes a team of health care professionals to provide quality<br />
patient care. Students learn how to be productive, valued health<br />
care team members by becoming aware that patients have different<br />
needs and cultural preferences. A study of medical terminology,<br />
the history of health care, and the services offered by different<br />
health care agencies will help students to understand the roles<br />
and responsibilities of health care team members.<br />
