Technical<br />
Education<br />
(CTE)<br />
❚ Students earn 1 unit of credit for each successfully completed course.<br />
❚ All courses use the NC Standard <strong>Course</strong> of Study.<br />
❚ Honors courses are weighted + 1.<br />
❚ Completer courses are listed in the course title<br />
❚ Future Ready Core students may choose to complete 4 credits in a career cluster to<br />
meet the elective requirement for a concentration.<br />
❚ Some CTE courses coordinate with Community College degree requirements.<br />
❚ Students who earn a final grade of B or higher, an 80 on the post assessment, and<br />
attend a Community College within 2 years of graduating high school, can earn<br />
college credit for these courses.These courses are called Articulated <strong>Course</strong>s.<br />
❚ Some CTE courses must be taken for two consecutive semesters. Students will earn<br />
2 credits for these courses. Check under prerequisites for this information.<br />

Completion of a Career Cluster and an Elective Concentration.<br />
Completer <strong>Course</strong>s (Level II)<br />
Completer <strong>Course</strong>s focus on advanced level topics. Students must<br />
take and pass at least one Completer <strong>Course</strong> in their Career Cluster.<br />
F oundational <strong>Course</strong>s<br />
Foundational <strong>Course</strong>s work together to prepare students in the Career<br />
Cluster of their choice. Foundational courses begin with introductory levels<br />
of instruction and progress to advanced topics. Students must earn at least<br />
three Foundational credits to complete a Career Cluster.<br />
Enhancement <strong>Course</strong>s<br />
Enhancement <strong>Course</strong>s provide students with basic skills that are<br />
useful in almost any occupation. Students may take one enhancement course<br />
as part of the four course requirement for an elective concentration.<br />
9th grade students who want to keep all their career options open should<br />
begin their CTE program with one of the following enhancement courses:<br />
Computer Applications I 6411<br />
Principles of Business and Finance 6200/6600<br />
Career Management 6145<br />
Personal Finance 7086<br />
Career Clusters<br />
Career Clusters are broad occupational areas made up of career options that share<br />
key skills and knowledge.<br />
Students must earn four credits in a Career Cluster to meet the elective concentration<br />
requirement in the Future Ready Core course of study.<br />
