JUMBO ZOO
4+
2-4 players
20+ min.
Contents:
Game board (in 4 pieces), 4 plastic elephants (in 4 different colours), 4 peanut trays
with 15 peanuts in each, 3 dice, 1 sticker sheet for the dice, 2 playing pieces (Zoo
keeper and Jumbo) and 2 plastic stands for them.
Game idea
With some luck and by winning exciting challenges you collect peanuts to feed your
hungry elephant. You need to collect 15 peanuts to fill your peanut tray. Who will be
the first to collect a complete meal for his elephant?
Preparation
Assemble the game board in the middle of the table. Loosen the peanuts carefully
from the trays and put them in a pile beside the game board. Each player takes one
plastic elephant, one peanut tray and one peanut (put the peanut in your tray) and
places them in front of him. Attach the Zoo keeper and Jumbo to the stands and place
them in the opposite corners of the track (during the game all players share these two
playing pieces). Attach the stickers to the dice – the Zoo keeper and the peanut on the
big blue die and the 6 animal stickers on the empty white die.
Game play
The youngest player starts the game by rolling the blue die. If it shows 1-4 the player
moves Jumbo the number of steps indicated, in clockwise direction (if the die shows a
picture of the Zoo keeper or the peanut, see The symbols on the blue die). The field
where Jumbo lands shows you which action you will perform.
The action fields
(1 peanut) Take 1 peanut from the pile and place it in your peanut tray.
(2 peanuts) Take 2 peanuts from the pile and place them in your peanut tray.
(Bird with peanut) Give away 1 peanut from your peanut tray to the pile (if you have
peanuts).
(Crossed hands) Choose one of your opponents and make a bet with him. Take 1-3
peanuts from your tray and secretly put them in one of your hands. Then hold your
closed hands crossed in front of the opponent and ask him to guess in which hand you
are hiding the peanut(s). If he guesses correctly, you lose the bet and he takes the
peanuts in your hand. If he guesses wrong, you win the bet and get to keep the
peanuts in your hand – and your opponent has to give you an equal amount of peanuts
from his tray. Note! You may not bet on more peanuts than the opponent you
chose has got. If you have no peanuts the turn passes to the player on your left.
(Two dice) All players take part in this challenge, in which you use the two white
dice, the plastic elephants and the 18 circles in the middle of the game board. Each
player takes their elephant in their hand. Then you roll both dice in the middle of the

game board, and everybody quickly tries to find the circle with the right combination
of picture and colour. The fist player who puts his elephant on the right circle can take
from the pile the amount of peanuts shown by the latest roll of the blue die (1-4).
Example:
Feeding time – Take from the pile the amount of peanuts indicated by your latest roll
of the blue die (1-4). Shake them between your closed hands and let them fall on the
table (from c. 30 cm height). You can take all the peanuts that end face up on the table
– place them in your peanut tray, and return the rest to the pile.
When you have performed the action the turn passes to the player on your left.
The symbols on the blue die
(The peanut) Each time the peanut appears on the die, all players try to be the first to
call out “Toot!”. The fastest player gets to take one peanut from the pile. If there is a
draw, no one gets a peanut.
(The Zoo keeper) Move the Zoo keeper to any free field on the track. After this the
turn passes to the player on your left. Note! When a player moves Jumbo to the field
occupied by the Zoo keeper, he has to give away one peanut from his tray to the pile
(if he has peanuts). So, with the Zoo keeper you can block ”good” fields and make
your opponents give away their peanuts. If Jumbo just passes the field with the Zoo
keeper, nothing happens.
The winner
The player who first fills his peanut tray with 15 peanuts wins the game.
Good luck!
Game variation for younger children
Remove the Zoo keeper from the game. If a player rolls the Zoo keeper with the blue
die, nothing happens and the turn passes to the next player.
If the blue die shows a peanut, the player can take one peanut from the pile, without
having to call out “Toot!”.
Apart form these rules the game is played as explained above.
