students enjoy freedom of expression, which is unique to us. This provides the
41

AQAR 2006-2007, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI
students with the training for developing their potential for leadership. Various
activities are carried out by the students.
Another unique feature is the Hall (Hostel) life on campus. Very rarely one comes
across 1 year UG students provided with single rooms. Many a student has developed
his spoken skills by being in the Hall. Halls provide the ambience for students to take
on leadership roles; it reinforces the spirit of oneness, fosters the idea of give and
take, exposes to crisis management and governance and provides them with
opportunities to develop their coping skills. In addition to this, faculty members
associated with the halls take on a mentoring role and help the students during their
stay on campus.
The number of cultural programmes organized by the students nurture the organizing
skills of the students. Each of the programmes are unique, like Deep Woods, Octavia,
Moon Shadow, Galarompics and Utsav.
The physical ambience of the college, which includes its huge building, excellent
play grounds, flora and fauna, the long gutters (lengthy storm water drains) provide
enough space for the students to be involved in both academic and extra-curricular
activities. Many students have vouched that they provide the best ambience for
intellectual exchange.
ADMINISTRATION
The administrative process in MCC is very consultative in nature, giving room for
representation of all concerned at different levels. The hierarchy is well structured.
There are four Deans one each for Humanities, Sciences, Student Affairs and Women
Students. Last year the post of Dean of International Programmes was created. The
office of the Bursar and Student Records Office are rendering vital support to the
college. The Bursar not only takes care of the finances but is also a member of
important decision making bodies of the college.
SUPPORT SYSTEMS
The following support systems exclusive to the college furthers the academic
programme of MCC: The Scrub Society – monitors cleanliness on Campus, Anti-
Ragging Committee – prevents ragging on campus, MCC Miller Fund – helps meet
educational needs of the children of on teaching staff, The office of curator - protects
42

the flora and fauna on campus, Staff Study Circle – a forum for loud thinking on
several subjects and the college cafeteria –a special place for students to meet.
40. Linkages developed with National /International, academic /Research
bodies:
In the year 2006 -2007 a Dean of International Programmes was appointed to meet the
global and international standards and to centralize all international programmes.
Dr. K. Joshua, Department of Philosophy, was appointed as Dean of International
Programmes for the academic years 2006 – 2008.
The following MOUs for Academic Co-operation were signed:
• Liverpool Hope University, UK
• Mediant Mental Health Institute, The Netherlands
• Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, Canada
• Chang Jung Christian University, Taiwan
• University of South Australia
41. Any other relevant information the Institution wishes to add:
The faculty of Madras Christian College has been very proactive in keeping
themselves updated in their areas of expertise. This is evident from the volume of
publications and paper presentations undertaken by our faculty. In addition to this,
they have also been constantly providing expertise by way of being resource persons
for various programmes. The data below provides a glimpse of the potential of our
faculty.
