Department of Botany
• D. Narasimhan was elected Fellow of the Indian Association of Angiosperm
Taxonomy for his contributions/interest in the field of Angiosperm Taxonomy,
2006.
• The Ph.D. thesis submitted by R. Sumathi, under the guidance of D. Narasimhan,
to the University of Madras was awarded Dr. R. Kalyana Sundaram Memorial
Prize for having been adjudged the best Ph.D thesis in Botany of the University of
Madras for the year 2006
Department of Zoology
• R.W Alexander Jesudasan was appointed the Treasurer of the Indian Academy of
Entomology.
• The Ph.D. Thesis submitted by Annie Philips, under the guidance of R.W.
Alexander Jesudasan, to the University of Madras was awarded Prof. Dr. V. A.
Murthy Endowment Medal for having been adjudged the best Ph.D thesis in
Zoology of the University of Madras for the year 2006.

Grants and Projects
Departments were able to add new equipment for the laboratories to enhance class
room teaching and learning.
Alumni and Well Wishers
The alumni and well wishers of the concerned departments have magnanimously
come forward with scholarships for students and also other accessories like liquid
crystal display, laptops, printers, camera to promote and enhance the teachinglearning
environment.

Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology (FIST) infrastructure in
Universities and Higher Educational Institutions
Department of Chemistry (2004-2009): FIST sponsored Rs. 32 lakhs towards the
