<strong>AQAR</strong> <strong>2006</strong>-<strong>2007</strong>, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI<br />
COLLEGE UNION SOCIETY<br />
Mr. R. Velu, Hon'ble Minister of State for Railways, Government of India, and a<br />
distinguished alumnus of the college inaugurated the activities of the <strong>College</strong> Union<br />
Society for the academic year <strong>2006</strong>-07.<br />
The students participated in SPANDAN <strong>2006</strong> of JIPMER, Pondicherry. MCC stood<br />
first in English Debate and Just-A-Minute events. The students won the Light Music,<br />
Fashion Show and Dance competitions in PRASARSHINI, cultural programme<br />
conducted by Kilpauk Medical <strong>College</strong>, Chennai.<br />
The <strong>College</strong> newsletter was re-christened and the first issue was released in October.<br />
<strong>2006</strong>.<br />
The David Chandran Inter-School Athletic Meet was inaugurated by Thiru S.R. Raja,<br />
M.L.A. The inter-department basketball, football and cricket competitions were<br />
conducted successfully. DEEPWOODS <strong>2006</strong>, the annual cultural festival of the<br />
college earned a lot of fame and recognition with more than 28 city colleges and one<br />
outstation college as participants. Quality entertainment was provided by ‘Lakshman<br />
Shruti', the light Music band, which captivated the crowd by their music. 'Morrison<br />
Avenue’ and 'Them Clones' featured on the last day of Deepwoods <strong>2006</strong> for the rock<br />
showdown.<br />
Teams were sent for National Level Debate prelims conducted by Loyola Society of<br />
Debaters. The team qualified for the national level by winning in the prelims. Teams<br />
were also sent for SAARANG <strong>2006</strong> conducted by IIT, <strong>Madras</strong>.<br />
The Danis Esau football tournament was held in the first week of February <strong>2007</strong> and<br />
the college team won the tournament.<br />
CENTRE FOR WOMEN’S STUDIES<br />
The Centre for Women's Studies is primarily academic in thrust and the action arm of<br />
the centre is the Women's Cell. The Centre offers an optional, two-semester Value<br />
Oriented Course on Gender Studies for the first year under graduate students. It is<br />
meant to open minds on the issues and problems relating to the status of women, to<br />
discuss theories which place women biologically, functionally and culturally in a<br />
subordinate position to men and to create awareness on the need to build a society<br />
free of gender bias.<br />
