AQAR 2006-2007, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI Part - C PLANS FOR THE NEXT YEAR Research Enhancement The thrust area of plans for the academic year 2007-2008 is research enhancement through research projects. The objectives of encouraging faculty and departments to apply for research projects are as follows: Academic updating by following the latest trends in research nationally and internationally Resource mobilization through evolving partnerships with Government and Non-government agencies. Enhancement of research oriented infrastructure Creation of collaborative partnerships with national and international agencies. Infrastructure Enhancement There is a felt need to increase the infrastructure to meet the demands of the changing academic ambience in MCC. Proposal for a new Women Students Hall of Residence to cater to rapidly increasing number of women students has been submitted A proposal to extend the MacNicol lounge for women students to meet the needs of the growing number of non-resident women students has been submitted. A proposal for a Centre for International Social Work to harness the potential of the increasing number of international partnerships has been submitted. A proposal for a new building with a dormitory at Pulicat Estuarine Biological Laboratory to meet the needs of the new PG programme in Marine Studies and Coastal Resource Management has been drawn up. A review has been made to upgrade the farm to make it more vibrant and cater to the needs of campus. 67
AQAR 2006-2007, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI Academic Enhancement The college plans to take definite steps towards evolving programmes of global stands during the next academic year. A proposal has been tabled for a World Class Business Education Programme for Business Administration and Commerce students. Efforts to improve library services to continue Proposals have been made by various departments at the Academic Council for innovations in curriculum designing to meet the challenges of a changing academic atmosphere Plans to enhance the support by the college for economically backward and outstanding students through scholarships and prizes. Plans to build the social work programme to meet international standards. 68
