2. New academic programmes initiated (UG & PG):<br />
• Marine Studies and Coastal Resource Management: Owing to the need for a<br />
master’s programme for the students of Zoology (Vocational) course in Fish and<br />
Fisheries, and the current trends in the field of marine studies, the college started a<br />
new course ‘Marine Studies and Coastal Resource Management’ under the selffinanced<br />
stream.<br />
• Computer Oriented Business Application (COBA): Due to the increasing<br />
demand for information technology related to commerce, the department offered a<br />
new course on ‘Computer Oriented Business Application’<br />
3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:<br />
Major syllabus revision was introduced in the Academic Council meeting held on 09<br />
June <strong>2006</strong>.<br />
• The Department of Mathematics (aided stream) introduced a new elective paper in<br />
the post graduate curriculum on ‘Operations Research’. The paper on<br />
‘Mathematical Statistics’ was revised taking into account the views of students on<br />
topics relevant for UGC, NET/SLET.<br />
• The Department of Zoology introduced two new papers, ‘Aquaculture’ at the<br />
M.Sc level and an allied paper on ‘Biochemistry’ for the III year B.Sc Vocational<br />
course.<br />
• The Department of Mathematics (self-financed stream) introduced a job-oriented<br />
paper on ‘Resource Optimization Techniques’. In addition to this, changes in title<br />
and content were carried out in some papers. A topic on ‘Fourier Series’ was<br />
included in BMAT 6 (Multivariate Calculus).<br />
• The Department of Geography, Tourism & Travel Management (self-financed<br />
stream) introduced changes in different papers keeping in mind the current needs<br />
in the market, like introducing a topic on ‘E-Scenario in Trade & Resources’.<br />
• The Dr. Devanesen Centre for Human Resource Development redesigned the<br />
Personality Development course offered in the III & IV semesters at the UG level<br />
in collaboration with Aim Insights, Mangalore. The revised syllabus consists of<br />
six units of theoretical inputs and two units for practical experience and exposure.<br />
