AQAR 2006-2007, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI • A retreat for the students of the Self-Financed Stream; Thought-provoking session on issues of the youth with excellent Bible teacher Rev. Stanley Mehta and his wife of Gateway Ministries International, Mumbai and Mr. C. Srikanth, Business Development Manager, APEX Technologies. • A day of retreat and sharing for children at Reach Orphanage and the Model Village, MCC was organized which gave the little hearts a time to rejoice and meet new friends. • 'The Solid Rack' - A live music concert featuring The Armageddon; A few SCMers attended a regional conference in Voorhees College, Vellore and a workshop in Gurukkul, Chennai; 'HYMNZ in Concert - a programme by the renowned team HYMNZ from the USA; Two sessions at the Staff-Student Retreat led by Rev. John Daniel, Renowned Bible Teacher & Director, Love India Trust and Former Principal, Madras Bible College; A prayer session with an American team; 'DEEP ROOTS' - A live music concert featuring top Christian bands and artists in the city — Samuel Chadwick & The Breakthrough, The Pillar, Obeth & CYW Friends and A2J; Screening of movies including Hells Bells - The Dangers of Rock and Roll and Beyond the Gates of Splendor; Visited the YWAM AIDS Home near Sanatorium along with members of SWAWSA. • A medical camp in Vadawadi village near Vridhachalam was conducted jointly with Danish Mission Hospital, Vridhachalam; The Christmas Programme, ‘The Saviour's day’ featuring Timothy Madhukar, Billy Yesudian, Steeve Vatz, Timothy Vanderputt, MCC College Choir, SCM Music & Choreo Team and led by Mr. Rajkumar Ramchandran, President, Logos Ministries, New Delhi. MCC CAMPUS SCHOOL MCC Campus School continues to excel in academics and nurture the whole child with its team of dedicated and committed teachers. The school released its second audio CD and cassette titled ‘Kids Clef’ which is an attempt to record Campus School songs and spreading the school's spirit and motto ‘Learning with Joy’. The teachers of the school continue to attend seminars and workshops to update their knowledge resulting in furthering their professional growth. The students of the school participated in interschool art music and quiz competitions and won prizes. The Headmistress of the school won the Teachers' Day Award for her contribution in the 25
AQAR 2006-2007, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI field of education from the GTPF (Global Tamil/Telugu Peoples Foundation) at Music Academy, Chennai. The school has prepared an exclusive booklet titled ‘Music and Campus School' with two articles on ‘The Influence of Music on Academics' and presented them to the staff and students of Elmhurst College, Illinois, USA, who visited the College in January 2007. The school has also brought out its Magazine ‘Young Creations 2006' which included the creative work of every child in Campus School. MCC RURAL SERVICE LEAGUE (RSL) SCHOOL The Madras Christian College Rural Service League Primary and Higher Secondary Schools in the old Tambaram village caters to the educational need of the poor and downtrodden people of the society. The MCC RSL Primary School, apart from its academic programmes, conducted programmes like Independence Day celebration, Children's Day, Christmas function and Annual Day programme with several cultural events. The teachers of the school have taken effort to create awareness and convey the importance of education through Villupattu. The MCC RSL Higher Secondary School secured 80% result in the public examination of XII Std held in April 2006. The students of the School participated in the SALT Bible Test in which three of our students got special prize (above 95 marks). ‘AIDS Day’ was conducted by the Department of Social Work, MCC, in which our students got III Prize in Slogan Writing and III Prize in Drawing. The students also participated in several games and tournaments conducted by the schools in and around Tambaram. A Character Molding Programme has been implemented for the students of VII Std by the Lions' Quest International. Community Services NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) NSS volunteers were actively involved in activities like manual labour, medical camps, blood donation camps, pulse polio, tutorial classes, reading for the visually challenged, etc. Apart from these activities, our NSS unit has taken up some of the following programmes: Started Youth Task Force in the College and volunteers have started working along with the traffic police in Tambaram regularly. 26
