Glossary of Terms:
Oral Storytelling: Teacher and students retell shared-class experiences in a sequenced oral narrative as a whole group.
Scene: A scene is the smallest bit of fiction that contains the essential elements of story. Stories aren’t built from words and
sentences and paragraphs. Instead, stories are built of scenes, one after the next, and each changing something that came
before, all moving the story forward. The concept of a scene in fiction comes from theater, where it describes the action that
takes place in a single setting. Writers should have a goal to accomplish with each scene because each scene gives a story life,
movement, and excitement by containing the element of change.
