Green Grove Elementary
Robeson County Center has made several
visits to Green Grove to educate our
students about healthy eating habits and
proper hand washing. We are excited
about our measurement unit in math and
continue to estimate before we measure
an item.
We would like to welcome Ms.
Rhonda Cooper, first grade teacher, to our
panda family. Ms. Cooper is a 2012
graduate of UNC-Pembroke.
! The Pre-K students recently
learned all about the thrill of the circus.
Their classroom was transformed to
resemble the “Big Top” as they dressed up
like clowns and acted as ringmasters. To
experience all the excitement the circus
has to offer, they traveled to Florence Civic
Center for Ringling Brothers and Barnum
and Bailey Circus – Fully Charged. After
the show they unwound with lunch at Olive
Garden.
Winter is an exciting time for our
kindergarten pandas. We are learning
all about the animals and climate of winter.
Math is always fun, but we are super
excited about our new math workbooks.
With reading, writing and so much to learn,
we come to school prepared each morning
to be examples for others by following our
PBIS rules. Our new school nurse has
taught us about the importance of brushing
and flossing our teeth. We look forward to
hearing the black history fact of the day as
we celebrate Black History Month. Ms.
Christy Strickland, Extension Family and
Consumer Sciences Agent with the NC
Cooperative Extension, Robeson County
Center visited our kindergarten and pre-k
classes recently to discuss the importance
of healthy eating habits.
The first grade study of health and
nutrition has been enriched with the help of
Mrs. Diane Zepaltas, Community Dietitian/
Coordinator of Project health sponsored by
SRMC Community health Services. We
can eat healthy and take care of our
bodies. We have been busy studying
Black Americans during Black History
Month to celebrate and remind us of their
contribution to society. We are also
learning more about composite shapes
and equal shares.
! Mrs. Janice Fields, Extension
family and consumer sciences agent with
North Carolina Cooperative Extension,
Dr. Gene Freeman and his daughter,
Alexandria, recently visited the third
grade classes. Dr. Freeman is
Superintendent for the Manheim Township
School District in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
He previously taught school at Carroll
Middle and also worked at the Central
Office. Alexandria is currently attending
Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The
teachers and students enjoyed hearing
Alexandria and Dr. Freeman read a story
as well as asking them questions. It is
always a pleasure to have visitors come
and read to our students.
Everyone who attended the February
PTA/Open House was treated to icecream
sundaes after the program and
classroom visitations. The school
chorus performed several selections in
celebration of Black History Month.
Puppet Love. The students and staff
enjoyed a wonderful Puppet Love
program in February that emphasized
the importance of good character,
being drug free, no bullying and
always following PBIS rules.
Teaching Cadets. Teaching cadets
from South Robeson High School
have been tutoring second grade
students. Thank you South Robeson.
Employees of the Month. Ms. Ava
Lewis, third grade teacher, and Mrs.
JoAnn Hunt, first grade assistant have
been named employees of the month
