Financial Information<br />
Accountancy<br />
Accountancy Department Endowed Scholarship: Annually, two<br />
scholarship awards by the Accountancy Department’s Endowment<br />
Fund Committee. Criteria used in selecting current students as<br />
recipients include senior standing, academic record, classroom<br />
performance, and participation in university activities. For additional<br />

2628.<br />
William and Olive Barnes Scholarship: This scholarship<br />
established by Greg Barnes, professor of Accountancy, in honor of<br />
his parents, William and Olive Barnes, for an incoming freshman.<br />
Applicants must have a minimum SAT score of 1100, and rank in the<br />
upper 10 percent of their high school class. First preference will be<br />
given to accounting majors then other undergraduate business majors.<br />

information. New students are automatically considered via their<br />
admissions materials. Award offered prior to February 1.<br />
Institute of Management Accountants Senior Scholarship:<br />
Four awards made by the Board of Directors of the Northwest Keystone<br />
Chapter of the IMA to senior accounting majors. Students must<br />
maintain a 3.5 overall QPA as well as a 3.5 in accounting. Candidates<br />
should apply to the Accountancy Department chair at 814-393-2628<br />
by October 1. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholastic<br />
achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities, and statement<br />
of goals.<br />
Gary L. Merz Memorial Scholarship: An endowed scholarship<br />
established in the memory and recognition of accounting professor<br />
Gary L. Merz for his many contributions to the university, Accountancy<br />
Department, students, and community. The annual scholarship<br />
will be awarded to a senior accounting major based upon academic<br />
performance. For additional information contact the Accountancy<br />

Charles J. Pineno Accounting Scholarship: This scholarship<br />
was established to honor Dr. Charles Pineno, Department of Accountancy.<br />
Candidates must be senior Accounting majors. The scholarship<br />
awarded on the basis of academic performance and service to the<br />
department. For further information contact the Accountancy Department<br />
at 814-393-2628.<br />
Harry Joseph Smith Memorial Scholarship: The scholarship<br />
established by David C. Smith ’64 in memory of his father, Harry, to<br />
provide an annual scholarship to an Accounting major. Applicant must<br />
be a full time undergraduate student, have a minimum of 1000 on the<br />
SAT test, and must demonstrate financial need as per FAFSA which<br />
must be on file by the application date. Contact the Accountancy<br />

Administrative Science/Management<br />
Dr. Leonard & Sally Ann Ackerman Scholarship: Established<br />
by Sally Ann Ackerman. To be considered the criteria includes a<br />
declared management or industrial relations major. Awards are<br />
available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The student should<br />
have completed at least 30 credits at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Minimum<br />
overall QPA of 3.25 is required in all <strong>Clarion</strong> courses and in <strong>Clarion</strong><br />
business courses. Contact the department of Administrative Services<br />
for further information.<br />
Economics<br />
Enid Dennis Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship, honoring<br />
Dr. Enid Dennis, former professor of economics, is available to junior<br />
and senior economics majors. The purpose of the award is to reward<br />
academic accomplishments and provide incentives to students in the<br />
field of economics. Contact the chair of the Economics Department<br />
at 814-393-2627 for additional information. Application deadline date<br />
is March 22.<br />
Economics Department Scholarship: Awarded based upon a<br />
high degree of academic achievement along with a significant level<br />
of leadership in college and/or community activities. Contact the chair<br />

Finance<br />
H. G. Burns Center for Finance and Insurance Scholarship:<br />
The Burns Center awards scholarships to incoming students<br />
interested in a career in insurance, finance, or real estate. To be<br />
considered, candidates must have a minimum SAT score of 1100, be<br />
in the top 40 percent of their class, and have demonstrated effective<br />
extracurricular participation. Recipients can continue to receive the<br />
scholarships throughout their four years provided that they maintain<br />
a QPA of 3.25. Student records are reviewed for this award via their<br />
admission materials; no scholarship application is required. Additional<br />
information may be obtained by contacting the chair of the Finance<br />
Department at 814-393-2626. Usually awarded in February or March.<br />
Burns and Burns Scholarship: This endowed scholarship is<br />
available to students majoring in finance, real estate, and insurance.<br />
The award process is initiated by faculty nominations. Nominees are<br />
required to submit a resume and are evaluated on academic<br />
achievement and contributions to the department, the College of<br />
Business Administration, <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and the local community.<br />

Gray Real Estate Scholarship: This endowed fund will provide<br />
scholarships for high achieving students majoring in real estate or<br />
finance. Students must be of sophomore standing or higher and have<br />
completed six credits in real estate. Students must have a 3.0 or above<br />
cumulative QPA. Additional information can be obtained from the<br />
chair of the Finance Department at (814) 226-2626. Deadline date is<br />
March 1.<br />
Marketing<br />
Paul Y. Kim Advertising Management Scholarship: This<br />
endowed scholarship established by Dr. Paul Y. Kim professor and<br />
former chair of the Marketing Department. The scholarship is awarded<br />
to an outstanding marketing major who plans for a career in the field<br />
of advertising management. The recipient will be selected on the<br />
basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and service<br />
to the department. Contact the chair, Department of Marketing at<br />

Marketing Management Scholarship: This endowed scholarship<br />
established through contributions from alumni, friends and faculty<br />
of <strong>Clarion</strong>’s Marketing Department. The award is made to a student<br />
planning a career in marketing management. Additional information<br />
can be obtained from the Marketing Department chair at 814-393-<br />
2627.<br />
Marketing Research Scholarship: As part of class projects,<br />
teams of marketing research students entered the Arresdust Research<br />
Project Competition in 1988 and 1989. The <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> teams,<br />
coordinated by faculty advisor Dr. Paul Kim, won first prize two<br />
years in a row. An endowed scholarship was established to honor the<br />
recipients of the awards and to preserve the department’s heritage of<br />
excellence in marketing research. The scholarship is awarded annually<br />
to an outstanding marketing major who plans a career in<br />

Retail Management Scholarship: This endowed scholarship established<br />
by the Marketing Department to fund awards for marketing<br />
students. The award is made to a student planning a career in retail<br />

Bonnie Silvertongue Memorial Marketing Scholarship: This<br />
endowed scholarship established by the faculty, staff, friends, and<br />
former students in memory of Bonnie Silvertongue, who passed away<br />
from cancer while teaching at the Department of Marketing. The<br />
scholarship is awarded to an outstanding business major planning<br />
for a career in the field of marketing. Selection criteria include academic<br />
achievement, extracurricular activities, and service to the<br />
<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> community. Contact the chair, Department of<br />
