Admission is $5. From singing and dancing to poetry and burlesque, Beast Women performances will take a variety of forms. “This show is an invigorating and stimulating experience that operates on a concept of revolving individual performances,” said Jill Erickson, co-creator, co-director and performer of Beast Women. “We hope to offer a new and personal experience to all in our audience.” Beast Women originated in Chicago as an outlet for women with various performance genres to develop their chosen art style and perform onstage, Erickson said. She Oct. 14 Chicago group’s performance series promotes strong, female solo artists and co-creator and co-director Michelle Power founded Beast Women Productions Inc. in 2007 to provide solo female artists a place to present their talents to a wide audience. “As solo performers ourselves, finding such rare prospects for women was very frustrating,” Erickson said. “So when you can’t find something you need…you make it…we made sure we had a venue to do just that.” Beast Women Inc. does three performance series each year with about six–10 performances each series. Each performance has nine–11 women performers, Erickson said. “Women’s cabaret is not a new concept,” Erickson said. “However, this show can become something of a vehicle to promote female artists in Chicago. It would be a dream to hopefully someday reach out and promote women everywhere.” This is the first time Beast Women has performed outside of Chicago. “We are very fortunate to be given this opportunity by LCCC and in particular Dave Gaer and Lisa Trimble,” Erickson said. LCCC theater and communications instructor Dave Gaer was Erickson’s speech and acting coach at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. Lisa Trimble is the LCCC cultural series event coordinator. “I can honestly tell you the influence that he has made on me personally and as a performer is very substantial,” Erickson said. “He opened my eyes to different horizons, pushed and inspired me when I was trying to find my way as a solo performer.” According to Erickson, Gaer was a driving force for Beast Women to come to LCCC. “He was the one who brought the idea that we should come and perform in Wyoming after coming to see us in Chicago, and here we are,” Erickson said. Beast Women will incorporate an act by a local performer in Cheyenne during the production. “We are really pumped to get the opportunity to share the stage with a local performer,” Erickson said. Beast Women Inc. accepted audition submissions via its website until Sept. 30. “We have had some remarkable submissions,” Erickson said. “Wyoming definitely has some rockin’ female performers.” All performers must audition for each series, including veteran performers of the show, Erickson said. “We think it inspires them to push themselves and inspires us as producers to keep high standards on the women we cast in each rockin’ show,” Erickson explained. According to Erickson, 29–32 women are selected from as many as 100 performers each series. Because of the number of women they cast, they are able to produce a different show each night. “No two shows are alike,” Erickson said. “It keeps the show fresh and keeps the audience coming back for more.” Beast Women is for mature audiences, Erickson said, so performers can experiment freely without feeling any limitations.
