Data source
Analysis of the Australian trading fleet is based on the data obtained from Lloyd’s List Intelligence
(LLI). The latest version of ship movement data obtained from LLI has been updated by LLI
recently, and results reported for financial years since 2006–07 may thus differ from those in
past publications.
Information sourced from various shipping companies, via personal communications, has also
been used in the analysis of the trading fleet.
Figures for “Australian registered ships with Coasting Trade Licenses” are based on data
obtained from the Department of Infrastructure and Transport’s register of Coasting Trade
Licenses. Major ships are ships that have deadweight tonnage greater than or equal to
2 000 tonnes, or gross tonnage greater than or equal to 2 000 GT.
