The <strong>European</strong> Council in 2010<br />

This publication outlines <strong>the</strong> activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>European</strong><br />

Council during its first year as an <strong>of</strong>ficial institution.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> first part, President Herman Van Rompuy<br />

summarises and analyses <strong>the</strong> main challenges and<br />

achievements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>European</strong> Council in 2010:<br />

preserving <strong>the</strong> stability <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> euro area; creating a new<br />

strategy for durable growth and jobs; and streng<strong>the</strong>ning<br />

<strong>the</strong> position <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>European</strong> <strong>Union</strong> in <strong>the</strong> world.<br />

The second part includes <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial conclusions <strong>of</strong><br />

Towards a <strong>European</strong> security model<br />

The internal security strategy was adopted under<br />

<strong>the</strong> Spanish Presidency. It is designed to prevent<br />

crime and increase <strong>the</strong> capacity to provide a timely<br />

and appropriate response to natural and man-made<br />

disasters. This booklet outlines <strong>the</strong> main challenges<br />

for <strong>the</strong> internal security <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> EU and responses<br />
