The gateway to <strong>European</strong><br />
<strong>Union</strong> law<br />
EUR-Lex combines an elaborate tool for pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
users and an information source easily accessible to all.<br />
The EUR-Lex website provides entirely free access<br />
to <strong>the</strong> world’s largest documentary repository on<br />
<strong>European</strong> <strong>Union</strong> law. It is designed for those who<br />
are interested in EU law and exists in all <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />
languages <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>European</strong> <strong>Union</strong>. It gives users access<br />
to EU documents in PDF, HTML, TIFF or DOC format.<br />
The content <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> site dates back to 1951 and amounts to some<br />
2 300 000 documents. The database is updated daily and every year some<br />
15 000 documents are added.<br />
You can:<br />
• consult <strong>the</strong> Official Journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>European</strong> <strong>Union</strong> online;<br />
• access EU legislation and o<strong>the</strong>r documents by:<br />
— searching for documents,<br />
— browsing through collections and directories.<br />

The L (Legislation) and C (Information and Notices) series <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Official Journal<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>European</strong> <strong>Union</strong> are loaded on to <strong>the</strong> EUR-Lex site early each working day.<br />
This allows <strong>the</strong> EUR-Lex user to follow <strong>the</strong> latest developments in EU law. The<br />
Official Journal has been available online in PDF format since 1 January 1998.<br />
Texts published in <strong>the</strong> Official Journal before 1998 can be consulted in HTML<br />
format or downloaded in TIFF format from an optical archive.<br />
New features<br />
New features have been added to EUR-Lex. Browsing through COM documents<br />
was added to <strong>the</strong> ‘Preparatory acts’ collection. The options <strong>of</strong> searching for SEC<br />
documents and national execution measures were made available in ‘Search by<br />
natural number’. To facilitate access to selected documents, permanent links have<br />
been added to each bibliographic notice.<br />
