Frequently
Asked
Questions
In case
of injury
What is health care
Health care, in terms of reporting workplace injuries to
the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, includes
■ professional services provided by a health
care practitioner – doctors, chiropractors,
physiotherapists
■ services provided by or at hospitals and
health facilities
■ prescription drugs.
What if I want to include
information with the Form 7
Include any additional information, send it to the WSIB
and make sure you also give the worker a copy of it.
What if the worker doesn't want
to or cannot sign the Form 7
Send it to the WSIB without the worker’s signature. The
important thing is to report the incident within three days
of learning of it.
What is first aid
First aid includes, but is not limited to, a co-worker,
manager or someone trained in first aid
■ cleaning minor cuts, scrapes or scratches
■ treating minor burns
■ applying bandages or dressings
■ applying a cold compress, cold pack or ice.
This may include a follow up, by the first aid giver,
for observation.
What if the worker isn’t
scheduled to work on the eighth
day after the injury
WSIB policy states that you do not have to report an
injury if the worker did modified work at regular pay
for up to seven calendar days from the time of injury.
If, following the injury, the worker had done
modified work for every shift, wasn’t scheduled to
work on the eighth day, but continued to require
modified work on the next regularly scheduled shift,
the employer must report the injury to the WSIB.
Do I continue to pay my portion
of benefit plans the worker
belongs to
Yes. You need to continue making your contributions to
the worker’s employment benefits (such as health
insurance, life insurance and pension plan contributions).
The worker also needs to continue contributing his/her
share of these contributions.
Why does the WSIB need all
of the earnings information
Workers who are injured or become ill and lose wages are
entitled to a loss of earnings (LOE) benefit. The amount of
the LOE benefit is based on 85 per cent of the worker’s
pre-injury take home earnings. The earnings information
is needed so that the WSIB can accurately determine the
amount of the LOE benefit.
