What is a labour market re-entry
(LMR) assessment
If you are unable to take your worker back or if your
worker’s earnings continue to fall below pre-injury
earnings, the WSIB will conduct a labour market re-entry
assessment. This will determine if your worker needs a
labour market re-entry plan to return to work.
What does an LMR assessment
include
In a labour market re-entry assessment, we identify a
suitable employment or business for the worker – a
category of jobs – that is safe, consistent with your
worker’s functional abilities, and reduces or eliminates
loss of earnings resulting from the injury. The worker’s
employment history, transferable skills and aptitudes
are all considered.
What is a labour market re-entry
(LMR) plan
We want your worker to have the skills, knowledge and
abilities to re-enter the labour market in a job that is safe,
consistent with his or her functional abilities, and reduces
or eliminates any loss of earnings resulting from the
work-related injury.
The LMR assessment identifies a suitable occupation
for the worker. This is often called a suitable employment
or business (SEB). We will then work with your worker,
your worker’s doctor and, whenever possible, with you to
prepare a plan to get the worker job-ready. The plan may
include any of the following
■ job search training
■ skills training
■ academic upgrading
■ English as a second language program
■ formal training.
Who pays for LMR services
The WSIB arranges and pays for external suppliers to
provide labour market re-entry services. The associated
costs appear on the Schedule 2 invoice.
28 Labour market re-entry services apply when an employer is unable to
bring an injured worker back to work.
