Are Your Customers Wearing The Right Gear
At least riding a motorcycle it is unlikely
you will get booked and fined for using a
mobile phone or GPS unit whilst on the
move!
New laws coming into effect as we go
to press in Victoria are cracking down on
these and other in-car activities whilst the
car is mobile.
Perhaps by outlawing these distracting
in-car activities Motorcyclists maybe that
bit safer on Victorian roads, at least let’s
hope so.
Because according to the Victorian
TAC whilst Motorcyclist represent just
3% of the motor-vehicle fleet for less than
1% kilometer travelled, motorcycle riders
account for 14% of all road deaths in
Victoria. Without researching any statistics
it would be reasonably fair to say that
these statistics for Victoria would be of
a similar profile in most other states in
Australia.
For this reason the TAC should be
applauded for trying to deliver a safety
message to riders of simply -
ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING WHEN RIDING.
This message was reiterated by
MotoGP riders Dani Pedrosa and Andrea
Dovizioso, when they visited the Victoria
based HART facility recently, urging
riders to wear the ‘right gear’ to protect
themselves when riding.
This campaign doesn’t need to stop
when the advertisements on telly finish
and the billboards advertisements are
replaced. The Australian Motorcycle
Industry can continue the message,
urging your customers to purchase correct
protective clothing. Not only will this keep
your customer safe and able to purchase
more from you, but continue to add to
your bottom line by selling more protective
products of which there seem to be ample
w e l c o m e
available on the market.
Also in this issue there are quite a few
new bikes on the scene with many new
models being announced in readiness for
2010.
Mentioning 2010, and this being our
last issue for the year, it is timely although
I feel a bit early (no Xmas shopping done
yet!) to wish you all well for the festive
season. It is the time of the year when the
Australian Motorcycle Industry has a bit of
a boom as ‘holidayers’ prepare their bikes
and themselves for their relative escapes.
What a great time to be reinforcing the
message to your customers -
ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING WHEN RIDING.
Wishing you happy reading, a joyous
and safe Xmas break, and a Happy New
Year.
