This work contains all the
family history articles published
in the Maryland Historical
Magazine from its inception
through 1976. Most of the articles
begin with the first member
of the family in Maryland
and trace descendants in the
male line down to the early
18th century. Since they have
been largely inaccessible to the researcher, we have
excerpted these articles in entirety and rearranged
them in this comprehensive two-volume work, adding
an introduction by a noted Maryland genealogist
and personal name indexes.
The consolidated articles—nearly 100 in number—
now form a reference work of a type long needed
in Maryland genealogy, with the range and scholarly
authority demanded by the researcher. Following

This book is a comprehensive compilation of
marriage references, actual and implied, in Cecil
County, MD for its first 150 years from 1674 when the
county separated from Baltimore
County through 1824.
It is much more than just
names and dates. In many
instances the reader will find
births and deaths, names of
parents, children, and other
relatives, places of residence
and burial, military service
information, and places of
residence and burials. These
marriage references were
gleaned from licenses, land
records, probate records (wills, accounts, inventories,
and distributions), bibles, church records, tombstone
inscriptions, newspapers, military records,
and family histories. Marriages were also found in
nearby New Castle County, Delaware and in Chester
and Lancaster Counties, Pennsylvania. It should be
noted that in some cases the dates of marriage are
precise dates while in other cases, due to the lack
of actual marriage records, they are approximate or
undetermined.

This series covers the
counties of Essex, Middlesex,
Monmouth and Somerset.
However, some Bergen Co.
deeds are recorded, while others make references
to Bergen Co. names within the deed’s description.
Hutchinson’s latest volume also includes 19 wills,
five intestate filings, and one declaration of intention
to marry. In addition, the author has also added
an addendum—a reprint of “A Further Account of
New Jersey, In an Abstract of LETTERS Lately Writ
from thence, By Several Inhabitants there Resident”
(London, 1676). The period of this latest book, 1702 to
1717 is the general period of recording, not the date of
the actual transaction (land sales, conveyances, mortgages,
powers of attorney, etc.) that oft times predated
the dates of the books. One is able to follow ownership
